Why goal setting is important - 6 Reasons to Know

Many people often ask me, what is the importance of goal setting, or is it essential to set goals.?

As per my observation, goal setting has always remained one of the most important steps that you can take in your journey towards finding your true calling and success.

Famous Life Coach Tony Robbins states that "setting goals are the first step in turning the invisible into the visible." The quote explains the importance of this exercise.

Here I have listed the six reasons why you should set goals in your life.

1. Direction to life

Setting goals gives you direction in life. Without having goals, you can be like that ship with sails from the harbor, but without a destination, you almost know that it will get lost and reach nowhere.

2. Checking progress

Having goals will help you focus on each day's task and save your energy to measure your progress. Whether you are growing in life or not can only be measured once you have set a baseline.

Once you have set a goal, progressing in that direction will make you feel happy and energetic. Once you can measure the progress of your goals, you would want to do more of it.

3. Motivation

People develop the attitude of delaying the work for tomorrow when there are no goals in their life.

For example, if you plan to lose weight, it cannot be the situation where you say that you will lose weight tomorrow. Once you have set a goal to lose weight in a month, you understand that you have 30 days, and you will have to put in the effort every day.

You will be able to achieve your everyday exercise target since you have declared a destination for yourself. Your desire to achieve that goal, the weight on the 30th day, will keep you motivated.

In this way, goals will keep you motivated.

4. kill procrastination

When you set goals in life, you find an effective method to deal with procrastination. Setting goals helps us understand that delaying the task is a dangerous habit.

There is a famous quote from Pablo Picasso which says, "only put off until tomorrow what you are willing to die, having left undone."

5. Greater achievements

Achieving your goals will give you the taste of victory, and you would want to have more of it. It's like winning small battles before you win the war.

You will challenge yourself more in the direction, pushing yourself towards the next level, and you will be able to achieve more and more with every passing day.

6. Clarity

The exercise of setting goals becomes even more important because that gives you clarity of what you really want from your life.

What is that you want to achieve? What is the kind of bank balance you want to have? How does your dream life look like?

Once you have set your goals, you can break them down into attainable, measurable goals. The goals will keep you motivated; they will help you avoid procrastination, provide you the focus, and give you a sense of achievement once you achieve them.

Therefore, the act of setting, achieving, and surpassing goals makes your life enthusiastic and provides you the opportunity to create and live the life of your dreams.
