When and how much to rely on naturopathy

Naturopathy is the treatment employing non toxic natural products to emphasize the healing power of nature. Naturopathic medicine is distinguished by its principles of vitalism and folk medicine and limiting the use of synthetic drugs. Though history claims its roots to be existed in Europe but India is no way lagging behind in practice of naturopathy. In the last 1900s, the naturopathic approach to health became unpopular, and naturopathy was considered quackery. But now a day a huge population of India is practicing naturopathy and this so was more or less due to resurgence of naturopathy by Baba Ramdev.

In modern medicine a consultation typically begins with a lengthy patient interview, dozens of tests, long queues waiting in hospitals and clinics and all this needs a long time and huge expenditures and what patients get ultimately is symptomatic relief but with so many untoward side effects. People also often look into natural therapies when conventional medicine has not cured the problem but has simply treated symptoms.  Moreover it is a good option for those who might not find relief for their chronic illness by employing medicine.

People believe that naturopathy involves natural treatments which help the body to restore its innate ability to heal itself without the adverse effects of conventional medicine. However, "natural treatments” are not necessarily totally safe or more effective than synthetic ones, and any treatment which is capable of eliciting an effect may also have deleterious side effects.

There are so many cases where you can use both conventional and naturopathic medicine to treat an illness. For example, naturopathic remedies may help ease the side effects of chemotherapy to a greater extend. At the same time you should not forget to tell your doctor about any naturopathic treatments you are taking. And, you should also discuss with your naturopathic doctor about your conventional medications. In this way, both healthcare providers can work as a team to give you the maximum possible benefit.

People can go for naturopathy without much consultation with the doctor for some treatments and they don’t have to be sick to try naturopathy. You can employ it just to boost your overall health or prevent an illness.

However it is essential to tell your doctor if you’re thinking about trying naturopathy without much knowledge about it. He can access that the treatments are safe and don’t interact with any other drugs you’re taking. In any case you shouldn’t stop or delay your conventional medical care because of naturopathic medicine and it is not advisable to use it for an emergency or condition that requires a visit to the hospital, like major surgery. Nor should it be used as a substitute to conventional medicine for serious conditions, like cancer and heart disease.
