What is an off-cutter in cricket and how to bowl it?

Fast bowlers and medium pacers in the game of cricket use an off cutter as a sort of delivery. With the wrist locked in place and the first two fingers placed on top of the cricket ball, a bowler unleashes a typical fast delivery, imparting spin about a horizontal axis perpendicular to the length of the pitch. A right-handed bowler bowls an off-cutter by pulling his fingers down the right side of the ball (from his point of view), which is similar to bowling an off-break but faster. When the ball bounces on the pitch, it deviates to the right due to the altered spin axis, which now resembles an off-break. This deviation is to the left, or from the offside towards the leg side, from the perspective of a right-handed hitter. The delivery is referred to as an off-cutter because it drifts away from the offside, and this deviation is known as a cut. Mastering this ability might be helpful because cutters frequently persuade and fool the batter into playing misleading shots. An ideal off-cutter moves toward the leg stump after pitching on of stumps.

Methods for bowling an off-cutter

Part 1: Improving your grip

put your middle finger on the right side of the seam and hold the ball with your index finger on the seam. Your middle finger can also be kept a little bit away from the seam. The ball should be held in your thumb's bottom grasp. For a good off-cutter, the grip is crucial.

Then use an off-spinning motion to turn the ball into the leg stump. Like a doorknob twisting in the opposite direction, Your primary goal is to spin the bowl vigorously. It's critical to keep in mind that the ball is turning away from the off stump and toward the center and leg stump.

Then, as you sprint into the pitch, maintain your grasp. Observe the batter before deciding where to position the basin.

Part 2: Handing the ball back

As you roll your arm for the delivery, maintain your hold. To ensure that the ball is released at the exact last second, clock your wrist backward.

The ball will then be turned clockwise using your index finger. Consider rotating this like a doorknob. Try spinning your fingers in a 'circularly' manner.

Now, With a firm grip on the ball, move your middle finger in the direction of your thumb and your middle finger in the direction of your index finger. This step must be completed while rolling your arm. Imagine that your wrist is providing the spin while your fingers are doing the actual spinning.

Finally, release the ball while dragging it with your fingers in a cutting motion from left to right. Your index finger should be used to roll and let go of the ball. Make an effort to create left to right spin.

The next drill I'm going to show you will help you make your off cutter practice a little bit more challenging once you feel like you have a decent feel for the delivery and the ball is consistently leaving your hand accurately.
