Prevent Aadhaar fraudsters from accessing your information; never share your OTP with anyone, even if they claim to be legitimate employees of UIDAI.
The Aadhaar release authority, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), recently released a tweet from their Twitter account warning people about fraudsters. It is safe to say that the Aadhaar card is one of the most important documents one can carry in India. It binds us to many different aspects of our lives, from our bank accounts to our cars. It has become a worldwide document within this country. With this in mind to protect your Aadhaar from deception is very important. A tweet released by UIDAI was very concerned about removing your e-Aadhaar card from public places such as online cafes and services.
Understandably, you will sometimes need to use an internet café or kiosk. However, UIDAI warns that if you do, it is highly recommended that you remove all downloaded copies from the program you were using. Fraudsters can easily access your Aadhaar-related information in this way and create problems for you on the road. The official UIDAI tweet reads: “To download e-Aadhaar, please refrain from using a public computer at a restaurant / online store. However, if you do, it is highly recommended that you delete all downloaded copies of A-Aadhaar. ”
1) OTP Mobile / Email Registration
In more recent times, Aadhaar and its associated features have been made more accessible and more accessible. This is all due to the simple authentication process when a One-Time Password (OTP) is sent to your phone or an email ID registered with Aadhaar. Never, under any circumstances, share this information with anyone. If you lose your number or change your mobile number, update the same with your Aadhaar card to prevent others from performing your card verification process.
2) Locking Aadhaar Biometrics
Our biometrics, such as iris scanning, fingerprints, and photos, are connected to the Aadhaar card. Although it is tough to commit fraud in this regard, there have been cases when fingerprints were taken to obtain a personal bank account. In that case, Aadhaar had come out with a biometrics lock option. UIDAI advises cardholders to keep their biometrics locked until and when they need them. This can be done through the website or the mAadhaar app.
3) Use Masked Aadhaar or Virtual ID (VID)
This is a random 16-digit random number map with an Aadhaar number. It can be used in the Aadhaar number area to authenticate or create an e-KYC service. Aadhaar number cannot be taken from VID.
4) Make regular checks
Be sure to confirm and verify your Aadhaar accordingly. Go to the UIDAI website and check the authentication history. It is also helpful to remember that you should also verify other Aadhaar cards for other people. Especially if you hire someone or run a business, with all the new tools and whistles that UIDAI introduces to improve security and efficiency, one can now verify another Aadhaar card online or offline. If you are trying to secure it online, it is a simple three-step process.
Step 1: Go to the official UIDAI website, and at the top right of the website, select the 'My Aadhaar' option from the drop-down menu.
Step 2: Next, select the 'Verify Aadhaar number' option. You will find this under the 'Aadhaar Services' section.
Step 3: This will take you to a new page where you will be asked to enter a 12-digit Aadhaar (UID) number, along with a captcha. Once you have installed it, click the 'Continue to Verify' button below. This will show you a page that shows the status of the Aadhaar card.
