1. What approval means in Sharjah
Sharjah Municipality has said it regulates pest control licensing closely to reduce the risk of illegal chemicals being used. Its director general has stated that pesticide companies must obtain a certificate from the Municipality and a commercial licence from the Sharjah Economic Development Department before they start operating, and that the Municipality inspects companies frequently. In practice, a company serving Sharjah should be able to show:
- A valid Sharjah commercial (trade) licence for pest control, from the Sharjah Economic Development Department.
- A Municipality permit for the activity of combating public health pests.
- Approved pesticides. The company should be able to name what it will use and show that it is approved for use.
- Trained staff who know how to handle and apply pesticides safely.
The Municipality’s public health and pest control teams also deal with the health requirements for food premises, which is why shops and restaurants have extra paperwork (see section 5).

2. Sharjah and Dubai are not the same
Many guides copy Dubai rules into Sharjah pages. That is a mistake. Each emirate has its own authority, so approval in one does not automatically cover the other.
| Dubai | Sharjah | |
|---|---|---|
| Authority | Dubai Municipality, Public Health Pest Control Section | Sharjah Municipality, with a trade licence from the Sharjah Economic Development Department |
| Approval route | No Objection Certificate (NOC) before the trade licence | Municipality certificate or permit plus a Sharjah commercial licence |
| Published company groups | Companies grouped A, B and C by number of qualified staff in a dated PDF list | Check directly with the Municipality. Do not assume the Dubai grouping applies |
| Call centre | 800900 | 993 (to report companies or ask questions) |
| Business paperwork | Contract, service reports and logbook for food premises | Municipality-attested pest control contract and visit record for businesses |
If you also work in Dubai, read how to check a company there in our guide to Dubai Municipality approved pest control companies.
3. How to check a company before you book in Sharjah
Use this six-step check. It takes about ten minutes and works for any company, including ours.
Step 1: Ask for the company name and trade licence number
A genuine company will give you its registered name and licence number without hesitation. Check that the licence is active, covers pest control, and that the name matches the quotation and invoice. A company that has only a phone number and a brand name is a warning sign.
Step 2: Ask for the Municipality permit
Ask to see the Sharjah Municipality permit or certificate for public health pest control and check the company name and the dates. If the company says “applied, waiting”, it is not yet approved.
Step 3: Ask which products will be used
Ask for the product name and active ingredient, and for safety information if you have children, pets, a pregnant family member or someone with asthma. The Municipality has urged residents to ask for the company’s licence and the licence of the materials used. “It is a special chemical” is not an answer.
Step 4: Check the technician on arrival
Ask for the technician’s name and ID, and for proof of training in handling pesticides if the company has it. Technicians should wear protective equipment such as a mask, gloves and overalls. If the person refuses to show any ID, do not let work start.
Step 5: Ask for a written quotation and service report
Get a written quote that states the pests, areas, methods, visits and warranty. After the job, ask for a signed service report (see section 7).
Step 6: Call the Municipality if you are unsure
The Municipality has asked residents to report companies that cannot show their licence by calling 993. You can also use that line to ask whether a company is licensed.
