In a distressing incident in Pune, 36-year-old realtor Nikhil Khanna lost his life following a domestic altercation with his wife, Renuka Jakhar Khanna, 38. The altercation, which took place at their residence in Ganga Satellite housing society, Wanwadi, escalated to a level where Nikhil suffered fatal injuries. The preliminary post-mortem report from Sassoon General Hospital, where Nikhil's body was examined on Saturday, indicates a severe head trauma as the cause of death, a revelation that adds a grim layer to the already tragic event.
Wanwadi Police, who are currently investigating the case, initially reported that Nikhil had sustained a fractured nose following a fall, which led to heavy bleeding and loss of consciousness. However, the latest findings suggest that the injury was more severe than previously thought. "The primary post-mortem findings point towards a head trauma," stated Senior Police Inspector Sanjay Patange from Wanwadi Police Station. He further added that the investigation would probe whether the injury to Nikhil's nose was a result of a punch or an assault with a blunt object.
The police arrested Renuka subsequent to a complaint lodged by Dr. Pushpraj Khanna, Nikhil's father-in-law. In his complaint, Dr. Khanna highlighted a series of grievances that Renuka held against Nikhil, including his failure to take her to Dubai for her birthday in September and his alleged negligence in not providing a satisfactory anniversary gift. Additionally, Renuka reportedly harbored resentment over Nikhil's reluctance to confirm travel plans or arrange flight tickets for her trip to Delhi in December for her niece's birthday.
Following the arrest, Renuka was booked under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and was presented before a magistrate. The court granted police custody of Renuka until November 28.
Dr. Khanna's complaint sheds light on the couple's turbulent relationship since their marriage in November 2017. Despite being a love marriage, the couple's life was marred by frequent quarrels, as per Dr. Khanna's statement. He noted that Renuka's behavior remained unchanged despite various counseling attempts, and her aggressive demeanor extended to domestic workers, making it challenging to maintain household help.
The events that unfolded on Friday were particularly harrowing. Dr. Khanna received a distressing call from Renuka, urging him to rush home due to a fight with Nikhil. "It's very urgent, Papa. Come quickly!" Renuka implored over the phone. On arrival, Dr. Khanna was confronted with a grim scene: his son lying on the floor, unclothed, with blood streaming from his nose and mouth. Despite his attempts to administer CPR and the swift intervention of the society's security guards, who helped transport Nikhil to the hospital, it was too late. Nikhil Khanna was declared dead upon arrival, marking a tragic end to a domestic dispute that spiraled out of control.
