How To Take Care Of Premature Babies ?

If your baby is born prematurely and is underweight, then today we are going to read about how to take care of it at home !!

Care must be taken from the growth of premature babies to their diet.  The baby has to be taken care of by his mother and his family at the same time.  A normal baby is born after 9 months and 9 days, that is 280 days.

A baby born before 259 or 38 weeks is called a premature baby or a preterm baby.  Such babies are kept in the hospital in the NICU (Newborn Intensive Care Unit) and are properly cared for there.

The right temperature

While the baby is in the hospital, the NICU's temperature is maintained properly, and in that manner, you have to take care of the baby at home as well.  It is not appropriate to dress too much or too little.  The baby's temperature should not be too high or too low, so he should wear gloves and socks on his feet. His hands and feet should not be left cold. Such babies should not be allowed to have low temperatures.  If possible, you can install a digital room thermometer in the room to keep the room temperature high and low.  At the same time, you can check the baby's temperature from time to time and dress or remove him.

Baby sleep and appetite

Premature babies have more sleep, and they have the same appetite. Such babies should be woken up every 2 hours and given milk.  If the room temperature and light are kept low, the baby can sleep peacefully, and his stomach should be full accordingly.  Therefore, after each feeding, the baby should be placed on the shoulder and gently rotated with the hands upwards on the back.

Care to be taken while milking

In NICU, the baby is given milk through a pipe. After the baby gains weight, it is given through a milk syringe, bowl, or spoon.  As such babies are more prone to infection, each utensils should be boiled while giving them milk. A teaspoon of milk should be boiled in hot water every time and then used.

Bathing Your Premature Baby

The baby should not be bathed until it weighs more than 2.5 kg.  Wipe the baby's limbs with lukewarm water. Once the baby weighs more than 2.5 kg, you can bathe the baby.  The baby's bath water should not be too cold or too hot.  Wash his hair with plain water. Avoid using different types of oils or soaps. Do not use any homemade powder or ointment for the baby. Use soaps and oils for the baby as advised by the doctor.

Avoid crowded places and visitors.

Since such babies can get infections easily, avoid taking the baby in crowded places and at the same time keep the people coming homeless in contact with the baby.  The least amount of people should handle the baby, and his contact with people should be kept to a minimum.  Sanitize the baby every time you touch it and then take it.

Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC)

The mother should place only the baby's diaper on her body, keeping her close to her breast and keeping her head on one side so that she can touch the skin with the mother's body.  Research has shown that doing so builds a closer mother-baby relationship, helps the mother get milk, increases the baby's digestive power, and helps him gain weight.  His body temperature stabilizes, and he grows well.  Therefore, the mother should try to give La Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) to the baby as often as possible.

Baby food

In many cases, it takes a while for the mother of a premature baby to get breast milk. In this case, the doctor tells the baby to give formula milk. The baby's mother should try her best to give breast milk to the baby.

Every mother thinks her baby should be nice and fit; a little more in premature babies, you have to care for.  If the mother takes proper care of the baby happily and positively, then your baby can be as good as any other baby, but it needs to be properly cared for during its early growth period.  Properly covered, it will withstand a lot of adverse conditions.
