The official completion of Education City Stadium – on 15 June 2020 – was marked with a special TV programme to showcase the third match-ready FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ venue.
The landscape around Education City Stadium is dotted with leading universities, where cutting-edge research is conducted and academics inspire their students to be at their best. This whole area, the home of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, buzzes with invention and a determination to make the FIFA World Cup 2022™ a catalyst for social and human development.
The stadium’s most direct contribution to international development will come after it has hosted matches through to the quarter-finals stage of the tournament. The arena's capacity will be reduced by half and 20,000 seats will be donated to build stadiums in developing countries, helping cultivate a passion for the game around the globe.
This reduction in capacity will also add to the intimate, inclusive feeling created by the venue's ultramodern curves, which encircle fans and keep the atmosphere firmly in the arena.
World-class facilities on Doha's doorstep
Fans can reach the stadium easily by either road or metro, with Doha's bustling city center just 7 km away. As with all FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ stadiums, advanced cooling technologies ensure comfortable temperatures year-round for players and fans, while access for fans with disabilities is excellent. Those looking for even more comfort can enjoy the game from hospitality and VIP areas.
As they arrive, fans will see many green spaces and state-of-the-art amenities surrounding the venue, all built with an eye on sustainability and the future. Facilities include football training pitches, a golf course and shops.
Education City’s students, faculty and staff can also use these facilities. For decades to come, Education City Stadium will be a symbol of innovation, sustainability and progress, in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the goals of Qatar Foundation.

One of Qatar's oldest continuously inhabited areas, "Al" was long a center for pearl diving and fishing. The traditional dhow boats used in these pursuits inspired the design of Al Janoub Stadium. At its inauguration, a stunning pre-match show paid tribute to "Al" heritage and to Z aha Hadid, the architect whose firm designed the stadium's boldly futuristic shape.
The Amir Cup 2019 final, which saw QSL side Al Du hail emerge victorious over Al Sadd, provided a taste of the experience fans will enjoy at this FIFA World Cup™ venue. Another full house witnessed a semi-final of the 24th edition of the Arabian Gulf Cup in December 2019 when Qatar took on Saudi Arabia.
An extraordinary stadium for an adventurous city
As football fans approach the stadium, they will be greeted by beautiful parkland and the arena's elegant architecture.
There's also plenty for fans to do around Al, before and after matches. Visitors can take a stroll along the waterfront, buy unique local wares at the souk, or discover the area's rich history at a museum.

A school; wedding hall; cycling, horse riding and running tracks; restaurants; marketplaces; gyms; and parkland are just some of the new amenities that are being developed to accompany Al Janoub Stadium. After the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™, Al Janoub Stadium will become a new home for sport and entertainment in southern Qatar. Its capacity will be reduced to 20,000, guaranteeing an electric atmosphere. The other 20,000 seats will be donated to football development projects overseas, once again demonstrating Al innovative nature and ability to connect with far-off lands.

Al Thumama Stadium’s inauguration was as host of the 49th Amir Cup Final on Friday 22 October 2021. The match, close to the heart of all Qataris, was a fitting occasion to open a stadium steeped in local culture.
Located 12 km south of Doha's glittering skyline, Al Thumama Stadium will host FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ matches up to and including the quarter-finals.
A coming of age for the beautiful game
Al Thumama Stadium is dynamic, empowering and truly imaginative. In keeping with all of Qatar’s new FIFA World Cup 2022™ venues, this arena has been designed to celebrate Arab culture and traditions, just as much as the tournament itself.
An enduring future
Al Thumama Stadium’s unmistakable presence sits majestically amid its lush green surroundings. Areas for play and relaxation have been created to not only beautify the venue, but to further enhance the lives and futures of the local communities.
In legacy mode, the stadium's capacity will be reduced to meet local needs and provide quality sporting infrastructure to developing nations. The remaining 20,000-seat arena will be used for football and other sporting events. A branch of the world-renowned Sports Clinic will open on site, while a boutique hotel will also replace the stadium's upper stands.

An exciting new dawn has come to one of Qatar's most historic cities, which sits close to Doha on the way to beautiful desert landscapes.
The gateway to the desert opened its doors to the world on 18 December 2020 with a spectacular debut that included the Amir Cup final.
Al Rayyan, where Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium is located, is known for its love of traditions and local culture, as well as its hugely popular football team, Al Rayyan Sports Club. The close-knit community here is deeply committed to the team, whose new arena will host up to 40,000 fans at FIFA World Cup 2022™ matches through to the quarter-final stage.
Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium, built on the site of a venue with the same name, incorporates symbols of Qatari culture into its spectacular undulating façade. The facilities surrounding the stadium also mirror the country, with sand dune-shaped structures recalling the beautifully wild lands to the west.
Al Rayyan welcomes football fans from around the world with open arms, eager to show them the rich culture of Qatar.
Larning from the past to protect the future
Thanks to its location on the edge of the desert, preserving nature and its gifts has long been a priority in resilient Al Rayyan – and this arena is no different. The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy has delivered the venue using environmentally friendly building materials and practices.
Every part of the stadium district has been designed with sustainability in mind. After the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ has come to a close, almost half of the stadium's 40,000 modular seats will be removed and given to football development projects abroad. The smaller post-tournament arena will enable Al Rayyan to maintain the intimate, neighbourly character it's famous for.
