HOW MANY PLAYERS ARE THERE IN A FOOTBALL TEAM

Football

Football is probably the best-liked game worldwide because of its simplicity. Football is played between two teams in which there are 11 players in each. The players wear special football shoes (boots) with special gripping soles. There is a huge role of leadership and team effort in the football game. The players can use their feet, chest, head, and abdomen to control the ball, but the use of the hand is prohibited except for a goalkeeper. A goalpost is kept on each side with a goalkeeper to stop the ball from entering the post.

Statistics:

Dimension of football ground: about 90-120 m length and 45-90 m breadth, must be rectangular.

The goal post's length, breadth, and height are 7.32m, 2.43m, and 2.44m, respectively.

The center mark is indicated at the midpoint of the halfway line. A circle with a radius of 9.15m is marked around it.

Within each penalty area, a penalty mark is made 11m from the midpoint between the goalposts and equidistant to them.

The ball circumference is 68cm-70cm and 410g- 450g of weight.

The players select their position according to their role, with the goalkeeper patrolling the goal post area. All the other ten players try to take control over the ball and pass to their teammates. Finally, the strikers try to score a goal into the opposition's goal post. This beautiful game is about scoring more and more goals into the opposition's post to win. Some fundamental football techniques are passing, kicking, trapping, heading, dribbling, throw-in, and goalkeeping. We are going to discuss the last three techniques in this class:

a) Dribbling

The skill of controlling the ball with the feet to dodge the opponent players to guide the ball in the desired direction to pass or strike a goal is dribbling. Players may use the different parts of the leg in the dribbling process. Knees, ankles, sideways are most commonly used in dribbling. Every time a player does not have a chance to pass the goal to his teammates. So this useful skill helps one to guide the ball near his teammates for passing.

Many skillful players are seen dribbling alone from quite a long distance to strike a goal without the support of teammates. A good footballer must possess this skill. In addition, a good dribbler must know how to synchronize the moving ball with his own movement. For the basic dribbling skill, you may undergo the following practice session:

Practice Session: 1

Divide the students into two groups. Align the team members in a line. Let a distance of about 25-30m be kept between the two groups facing each other on a football ground. Now, a student from the first group comes ahead and takes the ball. He dribbles the ball ahead in the direction of the second group. Then, controlling and synchronizing the movements, he passes the ball to the first player of the second group. The player to pass the ball must join the line of the second group at last while the player of the second group dribbles and takes the ball to the first group, and the process continues. If there are many players, we can divide into many groups and play accordingly.

b) Throw-in

Throw-in is a special skill of a football player to throw the ball back into the football ground to his own teammates with the help of a hand from outside the sideline. If a player happens to throw the ball outside the sideline, another player from the opponent team can throw the ball back to the ground with his hands. For throw-in, the player must stand outside the line, catch the ball with both hands by raising overhead and throw the ball inside the ground. The player to throw in is not allowed to lift his leg. Students can perform the following practice session for developing this skill:

Practice Session: 2

Let the players stand in a queue outside the sideline on a football ground. Let a player come forward, and the teacher passes a ball to him. He takes the ball, goes out of the sideline, and practices throw-in. The player to throw in must join the line at the back while the second player comes ahead and does the same. Thus, one by one, all the players must practice throw-in.

C) Goal Keeping

Goalkeeping is the art and skill of stopping the ball from entering the goal post by catching, blocking, punching, or changing the ball's direction. There is only one goalkeeper in a team, and a goalkeeper is the only player who can use his hand to stop the ball from entering the goal line. The goalkeeper should anticipate the football-driven direction into the post and try to save the team from a goal. The goalkeeper should understand the body language of his opponent player and necessarily involve in catching, diving, kicking, or punching the ball. For improving goalkeeping skill, perform the following practice session:

Practice Session: 3

Divide the students into two groups and let them stand in two separate lines facing each other by maintaining a good distance between the groups. The teacher gives a ball to the first player of the first group. The player takes the ball, puts it on the ground, and kicks the ball to the second group.

The first player of the second group will function as a goalkeeper and try to stop the ball by catching, punching, diving, or kicking according to the necessity. After this, the goalkeeper will pass the ball to the next player behind him in the second group. Then, the second group's second group will kick the ball towards the first group, and the process continues. In this way, all the players will practice goalkeeping.
