In the United States, 97% of children and adolescents spend at least one hour a day playing video games, making them an integral part of almost everyone's lives. The majority of psychological research on the effects of "gaming" has focused on its negative effects: the dangers posed by depression, addiction, and violence. We comprehend the significance of that research; However, we contend that a more balanced perspective is required, one that takes into account both the potential advantages and disadvantages of playing these games. In part, it's important to think about these potential benefits because these games have changed a lot in the last ten years, becoming more complex, diverse, realistic, and social. In the last five years, a relatively small but significant body of research has begun to demonstrate these advantages. We focus on four main areas to summarize the research on the benefits of playing video games in this article: social, emotional, motivational, and cognitive Playing video games may foster real-world psychosocial benefits by integrating insights from developmental, positive, and social psychology as well as media psychology. We propose some potential mechanisms for this. Our goal is to provide sufficient evidence and a theoretical justification to motivate new programs of study on the largely unexplored benefits of gaming to mental health.
