NASA's Artemis program has selected the DIMPLE instrument suite to investigate the age and composition of hilly volcanic terrain on the near side of the Moon. DIMPLE, short for Dating an Irregular Mare Patch with a Lunar Explorer, will focus on studying the Ina Irregular Mare Patch, which was discovered in 1971. By examining this lunar mound, scientists hope to gain insights into the Moon's evolution and the history of the solar system. The DIMPLE mission is part of NASA's ongoing efforts to explore the Moon through its Artemis program, which combines robotic missions and human exploration. The findings from DIMPLE will contribute to our understanding of lunar thermal evolution and aid in supporting future human missions to the Moon and beyond.
