It has been discovered that a five-year-old girl from the Kolar district of Karnataka has the ZIKA virus. Dr. K. Sudhakar, the health minister for Karnataka, declared that the girl's sample, which had been forwarded to Pune for confirmation, had tested positive.
"Of the three samples that were shipped to Pune, one tested positive for the ZIKA virus. As part of the district health administration's preventative steps, areas near Kolar are being sterilized, according to Sudhakar.
After a 67-year-old Nashik resident tested positive for the ZIKA virus while he was traveling to Pune, this is the first case to be recorded from the state of Karnataka.
According to a statement from the Maharashtra Health Department, "On November 30 NIV had verified the Zika virus infection in him." The individual has entirely recovered and exhibits no symptoms at all.
The Aedes mosquito, which was formerly only found in tropical and subtropical regions but is now widespread practically everywhere except Antarctica, is the carrier of the Zika virus.
Earlier this year, Zika virus cases were reported in Uttar Pradesh.
People who have been exposed to this virus may experience moderate fever, rashes, conjunctivitis, muscle and joint discomfort, malaise, or headaches as symptoms.
The Zika woodland in Uganda is thought to have been the site of the virus's initial discovery in 1947. Since then, there have been numerous cases of this virus reported from the Pacific Islands, Southeast Asia, and Africa.
Travelers are advised to stay away from areas where Zika is still being transmitted, according to health officials.
In the meanwhile, in February 2016, the World Health Organization (WHO) designated microcephaly linked to the Zika virus as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). According to the WHO, ZIKA virus outbreaks are linked to Guillain-Barré syndrome.
What we know:
- Aedes species mosquitoes that have contracted zika are the main source of transmission (Ae. aegypti and Ae. albopictus). Both day and night, these mosquitoes sting.
- An unborn child can contract Zika from a pregnant woman. Pregnancy-related infections can result in several birth abnormalities.
- Zika does not have a vaccine or treatment.
- Zika can be spread by way of mosquito bites.
Zika Symptoms:
- Fever, Rash, and Headaches
- aching joints
- eye color
- muscle ache
Days to a week can pass between the onset of symptoms. People rarely contract Zika and rarely become ill enough to need medical attention. Once a person has contracted Zika, they are probably immune to getting it again.
The risks of Zika for some people:
Pregnancy-related zika infection can result in serious brain problems, including microcephaly, which is a congenital abnormality of the brain. It is connected to stillbirth, miscarriage, and various birth abnormalities, among other issues. In Zika-affected regions, there have also been more reports of Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare neurological disorder.
How to prevent Zika:
Vaccinations against Zika are not available. Protecting yourself and your family from mosquito bites is the greatest method to stop diseases that mosquitoes can carry.
