Let's take notes: The sun salutation when using yoga for weight loss: These exercises are a combination of yoga poses, breathing exercises, sunbathing and prayer. Practiced for centuries by yoga practitioners in India, martial artists and African wrestlers, they are unparalleled as a system for rejuvenating the body and soul. It is said in drugless healing circles that a round of sun salutations is far better than a week of exercises at the gym! They are very easy to learn and almost anyone can learn these simple exercises regardless of their level of fitness or flexibility. In fact, if you're familiar with burpies (the calisthenics exercise), they derive their origin from the sun salutation. Here are some of their benefits: - They relieve skin and waist disorders. - Flexibility is increased and breathing is corrected. they also gently train your legs and arms, thereby stimulating blood circulation. - They are the best way to burn calories and lose weight and are often recommended for those who are overweight and depressed. - They are an effective method for loosening, stretching and massaging joints and internal organs of the body. They stimulate and balance all of the body's systems, including the endocrine, circulatory, reproductive, and digestive systems.                  (Technique)                                                                                                                               1. Stand straight with your palms together as in a prayer position.                                                             2. Inhale and stretch your arms overhead.                                                                                                             3. Exhale and bend forward while touching toes.                                                                                                   4. Inhale and extend your right leg away from your body in a large backward step, keeping your hands and left foot planted firmly on the floor. When you bend your head back, your left knee should be between your hands.  5. Inhale and hold your breath. Move left leg away from body and keep both feet together and knees on floor, rest on hands (arms straight) and keep body in a straight line from head to toe.                                                   6. Exhale and lower your body to the floor. In this position, only 8 parts of the body are in contact with the ground: both feet, both knees, both hands, chest and forehead.                                                                               7. Inhale and bend back as far as possible, bending the spine to the maximum.                                                 8. Exhale and lift your body off the floor. Keep feet and heels on the floor.                                                           9. Inhale and bring the right foot to the level of the hands; left foot and knee should touch the floor. Look up and slightly bend your spine (same position as #4)                                                                                                     10. Exhale and bring your left leg forward. Keeping knees straight, bring head to knees as in third position.     11. Raise your arms overhead and bend backwards as you inhale. As in position 2.                                          12. Exhale and drop your arms and relax. You have now completed a lap. Complete as many rounds as possible in multiples of 3. Ideally, you want to aim for a minimum of 6 rounds and a maximum of 30 rounds. It only takes about 5-10 minutes depending on your speed and intensity and is best practiced with as little clothing as possible in front of an open window in the morning.
