The Philippines- Due to the looming threat of the Omicron COVID-19 variant, the government is not easing restrictions further even as cases continued to decline.
A new and potentially more transmissible coronavirus variant first identified in South Africa has prompted a fresh round of travel restrictions across the world and raised concern about what may be next in the pandemic.
One of the members of Inter-Agency Task Force recommend that Philippines should be banned to those countries where the new variant was found.

Latest data from the National COVID-19 Vaccination Dashboard on Tuesday showed that a total of 2,554,023 doses were administered on the first day of the nationwide immunization.
* A new Covid-19 variant, Omicron, has pushed an average weekly change in new cases by more than 600% in South Africa. Deaths have also risen by more than 150%. The WHO has warned about its higher potential of global spread.
Japan- “We are taking the step as an emergency precaution to prevent a worst-case scenario in Japan,” the Prime Minister said. He said the measure will take effect Tuesday.
The decision means Japan will restore border controls that it eased earlier this month for short-term business visitors, foreign students and workers.
