One of my favorite quotes for success is talking about having one, the ultimate goal and doing everything else in life bends to help you achieve that goal. Well, I challenge you. I’m sure you’ve made your weight loss goals into a single, overarching goal that will make some things curve this month. Am I asking you to put your weight first? Before Family? Before Work? Absolutely not! Of course there will always be things in your life that will be more important than this. However, I believe that the list of things that are more important than losing weight and stamina is short. I also believe that even the most important things can be changed to be able to handle this part of your life. There is also a point to be made that apart from your health, nothing else matters. I even think about it. Obesity is a major cause or benefit of almost all major illnesses and conditions. I think that requires your fitness and weight loss program to be a little more advanced. Would you not agree? I thought so. Now, if you have not already done so, I do not want you to go on a rampage. This is not what this is all about. Instead of focusing on what you may not have done, make an extra effort this month to find ways to MAKE SURE you make the time and resources available to you that you need to stay in shape.
Organize Your Exercise, Keep It Simple And Easy This sounds oh, it's so easy. But you will not believe how many people I am talking to who are "trying" to "run" if they can get around it ", and never do it. Look, the fact is that most busy people these days will not be able to go to the gym or even run home every day. And the good news is that you do not have to. Exit your editor and take a closer look at your schedule. If nothing else, you will need to find 3 to 5 days a week that you can set aside at least 30 minutes for a particular cardio. Yes you will get better results in 5 days, but it is more important that you do something than do more. Try to plan activities that are easily accessible and fun if you can. Cardio funk class at a nearby gym. Running while walking with a dog in the area. Attach your favorite cardio DVD to the player and "fix it". Do anything simple, easy, and hopefully fun. You want to be successful, so don't try to be complacent.
Plan Your Grocery Store for Weight Loss Create a “main list” of all the healthy foods you will need to get a whole week eating healthy. Go get them all at once and keep them at home. This way, you will always have healthy eating options that will help you in your weight loss goals. You will also not be caught unawares by “munchies” and eating nothing at home but junk food for your children (or something else important!). You could also plan to take some snacks to work with you that will help you stay away from the temptations of co-workers selling donut donut-and-pizza-peddling.
Use the Weekend Time The reality is that for many people, the weekend is the only time when they can fully control what they are doing during the day. Why not take advantage of this opportunity to make sure you get a little exercise or aerobics or even a bike ride in the morning or afternoon when you have time to relax? Look at it this way: you will be taking out 2 days of exercise before the week starts. Then, based on your personal plan, you will have to worry about doing it again for 1, 2, or 3 days. This will go a long way to remove the pressure on you so that you do not feel like you have failed because you have been busy for a day or two and have not been able to do anything with your body. Applying these strategies will go a long way in ensuring that you are able to stick to your plan and not give up — even at times when your schedule is busy and difficult to maintain.
One Day At a Time Most people will not tell you this, but discipline to stay in shape — especially in the dining room — is often slow and time-consuming. And I know this from personal experience. It actually took me a year or two before I stuck to a diet and exercise program without messing it all up. And to be honest, it is still a challenge for me. Therefore, there is absolutely no reason why you should feel defeated if you are polluting on any given day. Just get back on the horse and make a commitment to yourself that you will get it right next time; and then next; and then next. And if you slip again. Finish it quickly and do better the next day.
I know all of this sounds very simple. That's because it's really simple. What makes it challenging is that bad four-letter word called C-O-N-S-I-S-T-E-N-C-Y. That is what separates people who benefit from those who do nothing at all. But most importantly, if the days you do the right things are far from the days when you do the wrong things, you will really succeed in the end. And yes, that's easy. In YourBestBody, Lawrence Cole
