Why weight Loss And The Theory Of Constraints

It has always fascinated me how business, finance and weight loss go hand in hand. Take a personal account as an example. If you add more than your output, your account will grow and become larger. The same is true with your body. If you put more into it with food than what you get out of it by doing the work you will grow and become bigger. That's a simple fact isn't it? What about business? If the business owner does not look after his business on a daily basis and takes action if necessary his business will probably fail. The same is true of the weight loss program. If not monitored daily and action taken if necessary it will fail. Many businesses are failing. So do many weight loss programs. That is a simple fact too. I have been an industrial engineer all my life and over the years I read a book on the production of Dr. Eliyahu M. Goldratt, an Israeli physicist, entitled "Theory of Constraints". The basic premise of Theory of Constraints is that all real systems, like a for-profit business, must have at least one obstacle. If that were not true, the plan would produce an infinite amount of whatever it aims to do. In the case of a for-profit business, it can be a never-ending profit. Because the obstacle is a factor that limits the system to getting the most out of any goal, then a business manager who wants more profit should control the barrier. There is really no choice in the matter. Either you have restrictions or they do. Obstacles will determine the exit of the system whether they are approved and managed or not. There can be many challenges in business but I have found that in my engineering career it is often the first one. All obstacles need to be controlled but with a strong focus on the first one, all the goals will be improved. Perfection is never achieved but progress can be achieved. It is an ongoing battle. Does Theory of Constraints apply to weight loss? Absolutely! If there were no barriers to weight loss then none of us would gain weight. Dieters can achieve improvement by focusing on their same key constraint as a business manager, although all obstacles must be controlled. It is an ongoing battle. So what is the main barrier to weight loss? I think it is found in all dieters. Cartoon character Pogo, by Walt Kelly, to say the best. "We have met the enemy and it is us." Yes. The main barrier to weight loss is between our ears. We prefer to sit on the couch and indulge in momentary pleasures rather than striving for what we would like to have in the future. For weight loss we may be hunting unicorn or looking for gold pots at the end of the rainbow. We may just find them as weight loss. There is a lot of good information about weight loss but to lose weight you need to be active. Information is not enough. You have to work at that basic limit. You have to get off that sofa and DO SOMETHING. I wish you all the best though.
