“Myth: Being Vegetarian guarantees weight loss and health. Fact: Studies have shown that those who follow a vegetarian diet eat fewer fats and fewer calories than those who do not. Vegetarians also tend to lose weight because choosing a vegetarian diet with low fat content helps with weight loss. However vegetarians can opt for unhealthy foods that contain high amounts of fat and calories with little or no nutritional value. Myth: All dairy products are unhealthy. Fact: Dairy products contain many of the nutrients your body needs, including protein to build muscle and help the organs function properly. Dairy products also contain calcium to strengthen your bones, and they are fortified with vitamin D to help your body absorb calcium. Fortunately low-fat and low-fat milk, yogurt, and cheese are as nutritious as dairy products. Myth: Eating after 8:00 pm is a sure way to gain weight. Fact: Your weight loss or weight gain is determined by what you eat and how much you eat and how much exercise you do during the day. No matter what time of day you eat, your body will store any extra calories as fat. If you reduce 500 calories more than your daily amount just before you go to bed it is obvious that you will not burn them while you sleep so that your body retains them as fat. Myth: Skipping meals is a great way to save calories and lose weight. Fact: Numerous studies have shown that those who skip meals (especially for breakfast) and eat fewer meals during the day are more likely to be overweight than those who eat a healthy breakfast and eat five small meals a day. Eating a small amount of food throughout the day helps you to control your appetite and keep your body moving. Those who skip meals often feel hungry later and eliminate excess food. Myth: Lack of fat means lack of calories. Fact: Low fat diets are usually lower in calories than part of the same diet. Most low-fat processed foods contain just as many calories, if not as much as the total fat of the same diet. Fat-free processed foods can contain extra sugar, flour, or layers of starch to improve flavor and texture after removal of fat. Myth: Herbal weight loss products are safe and effective. Fact: Herbal weight loss products are not really safe. Herbal products are usually not scientifically tested to ensure that they are safe or effective. A good example of this type of unhealthy herbal product is ephedra. Ephedra is a drug now banned by the United States Government because its products are known to cause serious health problems and even death. Products that claim to be free of ephedra are safe because they contain harmful ingredients such as ephedra. Myth: Weight training is not a good idea if you are trying to lose weight. Fact: Weight training or strength training such as pushing and tummy tuck will help you lose weight or maintain weight. Muscle-building activities are good because muscles burn more calories than body fat. It is recommended to do strengthening exercises two or three times a week. Only strong strength training can build bigger muscles. "
