Biden was due to join Albanese, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio on the twenty-fourth for a meeting of the informal security talk. This gathering was seen as a reaction to China's assertive behavior in the area.
As a result of the late-night cancellation, which also saw Biden cancel a trip to Papua New Guinea, the US is attempting to reenergize its security connections in the Pacific amid rising competition with Beijing.

As part of a weeklong Asia tour, which was supposed to start in Hiroshima, Japan, for a summit of the Group of Seven (G7) leaders, and include a layover in Papua New Guinea for a meeting with Pacific Island leaders, Biden had been intending to proceed to Sydney for the summit.
The ongoing debt ceiling talks in Washington forced Biden to postpone the remaining legs of his trip, but he will still depart for Japan on Wednesday, the White House said on Tuesday.
The Quad leaders will instead meet in Japan, where all four would be over the weekend, according to Albanese's statement on Wednesday. No time had been established, he continued.
"The Quad is a crucial organization, and we want to guarantee that it takes place at the senior level. Over the weekend, we'll talk about it, the Australian leader said.
Although the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue has been in existence for more than fifteen years, it has just recently begun to receive more attention. The meeting would be the third time that the Quad's leaders would meet in person.
According to a statement issued by the White House last month, the leaders were anticipated to address enhancing their collaboration on a variety of problems, including climate change, maritime domain awareness, and important and emerging technologies.
The other Quad leaders may still travel to Sydney the following week, according to Albanese, and talks are in progress.
The Australian leader also suggested Biden's irritation that circumstances on Capitol Hill had compelled him to act.
Early on Wednesday, Albanese and Biden spoke on the phone, during which Biden voiced his unhappiness "at some of the actions of some members of Congress and the US Senate," according to Albanese.

In the Indo-Pacific
Observers had viewed the Quad conference in Sydney and Biden's scheduled Monday stopover in the capital of Papua New Guinea, Port Moresby, as chances to cement US alliances in the Indo-Pacific.
As China asserts more of its territorial claims in nearby seas, increases the size of its navy, and militarises islands in the South China Sea, the region has grown in importance for Washington.
Additionally, Beijing has increased its military intimidation of Taiwan, a democratically run island that China's ruling Communist Party claims as its own. In response to a meeting between US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen in California last month, Beijing started conducting military exercises all around the island.
Biden was scheduled to meet with James Marape, the prime minister of Papua New Guinea, and other members of the Pacific Island Forum in Port Moresby.
The visit was the latest move by the US to re-engage in the South Pacific, a strategically important region widely perceived as having been largely forgotten by Washington since the end of the Cold War. The visit was keenly anticipated by the Marape government as a potential economic benefit.
Recent years have seen China expand its diplomatic efforts in the area and forge strong ties with some Pacific Island nations, culminating in the signing of a bilateral security agreement with the Solomon Islands last year.
The talks between the two nations on a defense cooperation pact would have been taking place at the same time as Biden's trip to Port Moresby, which would have been the first by a US President in office.
The impact of the Quad meeting's postponement in Sydney may be "negligible," according to Derek Grossman, a senior defence analyst at the US think tank RAND Corporation, given the coalition already had "good momentum" from prior meetings.
However, he noted that the cancellation of Monday's trip to Papua New Guinea would have more significant repercussions for US policy towards the Pacific Islands.
In the area, the US "has done a good job of elevating its game, but this missed (Papua New Guinea) visit will serve as evidence to the contrary - essentially that Washington is an unreliable partner over the long-term," he said.
"This directly feeds into Beijing's narrative and could strengthen its hand," he said.
