You've no doubt heard of Google's AdSense and are thinking of giving it a try. But is it really worth putting an AdSense banner on your site?
The answer is an unequivocal yes. You could always have some other banner on your site, or even use some search affiliate advertising program and that would probably make you some money, of course, given that your site is getting a healthy amount of traffic. However, with affiliate marketing, a visitor from your website is expected to complete a sale before you are rewarded.
But this is nowhere near what you get from using AdSense. There are people who make more than $100,000 a year using AdSense. And it doesn't just stop at making more money. First, the ads are text only. This means that they are far less distracting to your visitors than your average flashy banner designed to grab the visitor's attention.
Sure, you'll have to make sure they get better placement to get noticed, but they still don't bother viewers as much as traditional ads. Think about the many sites you've seen using pop-ups, floating banners, and many other schemes that make visitors scream in anger every time they visit said site. In fact, you can do better, annoy people less and still make money.
Second, ads are generated based on your website content automatically. When you use an affiliate advertising program, you must specify certain categories that your site belongs to.
However, if any page on your site does not fall into these categories, the banners will no longer be targeted. And that means you're potentially showing ads to people who have no interest in them, which can lead to inefficiencies.
With Google AdSense, this almost never happens: the ads on your site will always be in sync with what your visitors are interested in, and this increases the value of your site and the revenue it generates. Additionally, the look and size of these banners is customizable, meaning they'll feel more integrated with the rest of your site's content, increasing the overall visual quality of your site over the traditional approach.
It is also a big problem for many people to find people to advertise on their site. AdSense is by far the easiest solution available today for this problem. Joining the AdSense program is free and takes almost no time at all. The potential site database from Google Ads is larger than anything you'll find with any competitor, with over 150,000 users. This means that as more people compete for CPC or cost per click for search terms, it will inevitably rise.
Setting up AdSense on your website is also a breeze 'and' you can complete the whole process in less than an hour. It takes much less time than any form of affiliate advertising, which is another reason to choose the easy AdSense approach. All you have to do to add an AdSense banner to your site (besides signing up for the program of course) is copy and paste a few lines 'and' you're done, you can choose where the banners go, how big they are and how they integrate with the rest of your site.
This is a killer scheme for any webmaster because it allows you to draw a line between the level of usability of your site and the amount of advertising you want to have. Some people absolutely need the money, while others just keep AdSense running 'so' they can pay to host their website. AdSense is a great advertising program because a lot of thought has gone into making it "work for everyone". It works great for people who use Google Ads, for webmasters who use Google Ads, and especially for website visitors.
