How is uric acid produced in the body?
Uric acid is a type of waste chemical substance that is normally produced in our body every moment. Our kidneys remove this waste chemical substance from the body through urine.
Some of its portions are also excreted from the body through the stool. It is an organic compound that mainly consists of elements like nitrogen, oxygen, and hydrogen.
The main reason for the formation of uric acid in our body is an element called purine; due to dead cells in our body, purine is formed. This purine also reaches our body through certain types of foods, and after the purine metabolism, uric acid is formed.
Excessive formation of uric acid causes many problems like Gout, Arthritis, Kidney stones, etc., in our body. There are many reasons behind the increase in uric acid in our body.
But mainly understand that uric acid can increase in two types of situations; one situation is that even if uric acid is becoming more and more than its excretion in the body for any reason, then its level will increase in the blood.
In the second case, if uric acid production in our body is normal but for whatever reason, our kidneys are not removing uric acid from the body properly, even then, the level of uric acid will also increase in the bloodstream.
So to understand the reason for the increase in uric acid, first of all, we have to understand the first condition of increasing uric acid levels, what is the reason it increases in our body.
The main reasons for this are…
1. Consuming a diet rich in purine content…
Purine is most commonly found in beer, wine, vodka, and many types of meat such as…
Red meat in which many types of fish like shellfish, seafood included, etc. Apart from this, chicken, mutton, the liver also have high purine content, etc.
If a person consumes such substances in excess amounts, then more and more purine accumulates in his body, and this purine converts into uric acid. Due to this, uric acid starts increasing in the body.
Apart from this, the most common reason for increasing uric acid in men nowadays is the more consumption of such vegetables and other food products like...
- Cauliflower
- Mushrooms
- Beans
- Variety of pulses
- Green peas and full-fat milk or curd can also cause uric acid to increase.
2. Thyroid diseases…
There are two types of major thyroid disease: hypothyroidism and the other is hyperthyroidism. If a person is suffering from any of these two types of problems, then the problem of hyperuricemia (increased uric acid) can occur.
3. Chemotherapy…
Nowadays, it is a common thing for many people to have the problem of certain types of cancer, in which different types of treatment such as chemotherapy are used due to which, thousands of cells start dying in the body, and due to these dead cells, uric acid starts increasing.
Therefore chemotherapy is a major cause of increased uric acid in cancer patients.
4. In many types of cancers…
There are many types of cancer in which the number of cells in the body starts increasing rapidly. Due to this reason, the level of uric acid also starts to rise in the body.
5. By the use of diuretic medicines…
Excessive consumption of these types of medicines also increases the amount of uric acid in the body. It mainly contains Loop or Thiazide diuretic drugs.
In addition to these medicines, many types of other medicines suppress immunity, such as…
Tacrolimus, Cyclosporine also increases the levels of uric acid in the body.
6. Due to obesity…
The levels of uric acid also start increasing in those people who are overweight. There are many reasons behind this, such as an increase in urate (Monosodium Urate), etc.
This is because people who are overweight also have more amount of insulin in their blood. Thus, the high amount of insulin is a major reason for the increased uric acid in the blood.
7. Genetic causes…
Genetic is also the main reason for the increase in uric acid in many individuals.
Apart from this, if for any reason you have any type of kidney problem, even then uric acid starts increasing in the body because of the inability of the kidneys to do their job properly (examples- in case of acute or chronic renal failure), etc.
