Unemployment is a big problem in the world, as some may know. The real question is: why are There people who don't have a job? Unemployment is a problem, but why? Is there something inherent in the problem that leads to unemployment? Or are we looking at a chicken and egg problem? If so, which came first, unemployment or the larger economic situation?
Unemployment is a problem because it stops flows from happening. The unemployed could be contributing to society, but instead, they're hurting it. They are not creating economic activity or value for anyone. In this way, unemployment is a kind of waste — it's a deadweight loss on society. If unemployment is a problem, why do we tolerate it? Why don't we solve it?
If most people have jobs, then the economy is working, right? Unemployment means that something is wrong, and we need to fix it. Right? We've got it all wrong about unemployment. The biggest problem with unemployment is not for the unemployed, who feel mired in a discouraging netherworld of misery and deprivation, from which they hope most of all not to fall lower still. The biggest problem is for the employed.
Unemployment is an economic problem. It means lack of employment or absence of employment. Unemployment is a worldwide phenomenon. Even developed countries like the USA, UK, and France are facing the problem of unemployment or acute shortage of employment. In Asian countries, unemployment is, however, at its highest peak. Pakistan is also included in the list of such countries.
Drawbacks of Unemployment:
Unemployment brings many social, economic, and spiritual evils. It spreads starvation, diseases, and even death to its victims. Dishonesty, corruption, and all kinds of evils prevail in a society where the majority of the population is suffering from unemployment. Moreover, when a large portion of the population is unemployed, no effort to increase national income can succeed.
Causes of unemployment:
There are many causes of unemployment.
Poor system of education:
A country will face an acute shortage of employment where a system of education would be poor. Thus, our system of education does not fulfill our social and economic needs. Our system of education is designed so that it produces clerks, peons, laborers, and unskilled man powers, whereas we need technical and skilled workers.
The backwardness of industrial sectors:
The industrial sector of our country is passing through its most primary stages. There are few mills and factories in our country that cannot absorb jobless people. Further, the system of production is old and backward and cannot compete on an international level.
Increase in population:
Our population is increasing at a very high rate, which would double approximately in the next 50 years, whereas the job opportunities do not correspond to the increase in the birth rate. Under these circumstances, it is very difficult to provide jobs to such numerous people, which is increasing every year.
