Understanding the basics of Drs. Atkins is essential for successful weight loss and non-maintenance. Do not start using Atkins diet before you have a good study of the program. If you do not understand the basics of Atkins diet and post-eating philosophy, you may not see well and you will probably stop before you can use the Atkins Diet properly. Basic Atkins Diet Philosophy The basic philosophy of the Atkins diet is that it is not really "eating" in the traditional sense of the word. Yes, you can lose weight in the Atkins system, but it is more than that. The Atkins diet is a change because you don’t just use it to lose pounds, then get out of it. It is a perfect lifestyle that you can use for the rest of your life to maintain a healthy weight and be healthy and happy. You may be offended by the idea of being "Atkins" for the rest of your life, but it's not like eating your whole life. Instead, because there are four basic and distinct stages in the Atkins diet, you go beyond a diet and a diet plan that you can use for the rest of your life without feeling limited. It is really just a way to “eat wisdom,” not self-denial. Introduction Phase The first phase of Drs. Atkins Import. This is a very preventable phase, but it takes a few weeks for most people. The purpose of starting an Atkins diet at the intake phase is to re-energize your body to start burning body fat like fuel rather than relying on the carbohydrates you eat. During the basic or intake phase of the Atkins diet, you will eat meat, cheese and plenty of selected vegetables and salads. Limits carbohydrates to less than 20 grams per day. You can still eat a lot of food and you will not feel hungry because your body will quickly go into a condition called "ketosis" when the body burns fuel more efficiently and uses your body fat - so you will feel less need to replenish carbs to gain energy. Continuous Weight Loss Phase Two, Continuous Weight Loss, is where you can start adding a small amount of low-carb diet. For the first week, you go up to 25 grams a day and stay there for a week or two to see how it works for you. Each week thereafter, add 5 grams of carbohydrates a day until you see that your weight has stopped. At that point, you just lose weight by 5 grams a day and you should see a strong, slow weight loss. At this point, your weight loss will be slower than the import period, but you may still lose 5-8 pounds per month. This can be a healthy, moderate weight loss pattern. Pre-Maintenance Phase During phase three, Pre-Maintenance, your goal will be to reduce weight loss as you approach your goal weight. You can now add up to 10 grams a day each week until you have reached the plateau. During pre-care you will find that you have been able to add some of your favorite carbohydrates in moderation. This is the key to following the basics of the Atkins diet correctly - understanding that you can have low carb without low carb diets. This section prepares you for the final phase. Lifetime Maintenance Lifetime Maintenance is an Atkins diet category that becomes your lifestyle after gaining the desired weight loss. By the time you get to nutrition, you should have a good basic understanding of what to focus on when eating out for the rest of your life. It is a simple philosophy - a nutritious, low-carb diet and plenty of healthy body water and extra energy. It's basically about cutting back on junk food and weight loss - not about giving up completely or about counting calories, so it's easy to keep it for the rest of your life. Lifelong preservation is very important for the basic Atkins diet. It is about overuse of pasta, refined wheat products and sugar so that your body can no longer rely on it for fuel. It is a way to keep yourself healthy and fit (not fat!) For the rest of your life without dieting.
