Thomas Edison has failed thousands of times before he transformed the world by inventing and authorizing an incandescent lamp. Because of his desire to create incandescent light, he was one of the most persistent people in history. Established when Edison failed miserably, incandescent light, was one of his most famous assets. His persistence also led to many other fine things. He owned copyrights in things like electricity, batteries, cement, motion pictures, phonographs, mines, telegraphs and telephones.
How often have you failed in your efforts? When you learned to ride a bike, roller skate, play the piano, learn a foreign language, etc., did you fail many times?
Many modern devices are the result of Edison's ingenuity. Edison did amazing things with just persistence.
1. Edison insisted
After fifty years of trying to build a durable light bulb, Edison achieved success with an incandescent lamp. Edison needed information that would go hand in hand to form a long-lasting fiber. He first tried platinum, working for about one to two hours. He tried carbon, which had a very high melting point. When carbon seemed to fail, Edison tried boron, chromium, molybdenum, tungsten, nickel, platinum (again). Finally, Edison found carbon to act as the light of his lamp, which lasted for more than 40 hours.
What are some of the things you do in your life and work? Do you enjoy what you do for a living? Are there other things you would like to do as a career? You may ask, “What if I try something that does not work?” Try something else. And if you do not succeed, try again! Consider an example of a child who learns to walk. How do most people travel? They keep trying, no matter how long it takes, to get away.
2. Edison learned how to meet an unmet need
The old marketing philosophy is “to fill an unmet need.” Edison invented practical objects that most people could use, such as lamps, phonographs, batteries, etc.
Edison could not just invent things, he could invent real things. Each of us has practical abilities that we can give to the world. The world needs your talents just as the world needs Edison's talents. What other ideas do you have that could meet an unmet need? What do you see near you that can be improved? Edison did the same with meditation and checked to see how much he had accomplished.
3. Edison knew he could start something when he was determined
Edison's quest to establish an incandescent lamp took him about four years. Regarding his experiment with electric light, he said: "I have never been discouraged or prone to despair of success." Edison knew he could find a way to make a light bulb work and be a useful tool for public use.
For those of you who are involved in achieving goals, are you determined enough to succeed? Do you have that attitude regardless of what is happening?
Edison saw thousands of better ways of doing things. He had to make many things happen in order to be successful. Edison did not think that any of his failures were actually "failures." Edison said, “If I find 10,000 ways something will not work, I have not failed. I'm not disappointed, because all the wrong attempts have been discarded is one step further…. ”Do you turn your“ mistakes ”into a learning experience? Embrace an attitude similar to Edison's. Learn from mistakes. Persevere.
