The second T20 international between India and Sri Lanka was originally scheduled to play on 27th July, but the match has been rescheduled. Krunal Pandya, the Indian left-arm spinner, was found Covid-positive on the match day, and because of that, the match had to be postponed. Now the second T20I match between India and Sri Lanka will be played on 28th July.
BCCI said in a media release earlier in the day, "The medical teams have identified eight members as close contacts. The entire contingent is undergoing RT-PCR tests today to ascertain any further outbreak in the squad."
All the players have been undergoing antigen tests on match day from the start of the series. India and Sri Lanka, both teams, have been following all the Covid related protocols, but it was miserable to see Krunal Pandya got hit by corona. Consequently, all the Indian contingent players have to go through the RT-PCR test on Tuesday to make sure there will be no more vulnerability in the squad.
The series has very much been dominated by India. Despite having players who have hardly got any international exposure, yet India won the ODI series convincingly. They beat Sri Lanka and won the ODI series 2-1. In the first T20I, also India played like a champion and won the game by 38 runs. India managed to bowl all Sri Lankan batters out with nine balls to spare.
All the players performed beautifully well for team India. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was adjudged Man of the Match award for his four wickets in 3.3 overs. Surya Kumar Yadav once again came good with the bat and contributed fifty runs to his team. Ishan Kishan's flourish at the end with the bat made sure India went past 160 runs.
Krunal Pandya played well too in that match and took the first Sri Lankan wicket. But he will no longer be available for selection for the second and third T20I because of the corona positive. Who will replace Krunal in the second T20I? Rahul Chahar, the rising leg spinner, is one of the strong contenders along with Krishnappa Gowtham. Rahul Chahar bowled brilliantly in the last ODI match and took three crucial wickets for his team.
The second T20I and the third T20I will be played back to back. The final T20I will be played on 29th July, which was already fixed at the beginning. India would love to win the second T20I, which was rescheduled to play on 28th July and win the series. If India wins the second T20I against Sri Lanka, we can expect few changes in the last match of the series.
Indian test sides are right now in the UK for the test series against England. And they, too hit by Covid. Rishabh Pant, the Indian wicket-keeper batsman, got hit by Corona earlier. He joined with the squad late in Durham after clearing the Corona test. Dayananda Garami, who tested Covid-positive in the UK, and because of him, Wriddhiman Saha, Bharat Arun, Abhimanyu Easwaran, who were close in contact with him, went through 10 days of isolation.
Surya Kumar Yadav and Prithvi Shaw will all be set to fly to the UK for the test match series between England and India. Now both of them are with the Indian white-ball side. Once the series between India and Sri Lanka will over, both go to serve their country in England.
