A two-day training workshop was organized in Lahore by Emerging Leadership Academy Program Lahore under the auspices of the Center for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) in which human rights activist Asif Munawar has a chance to discuss with Ms. Aila Hamza Malik (MNA) from the ruling party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Taking full advantage of this opportunity, Mr. Asif tried to draw the attention of the party towards the Issues regarding Women, Minorities, and Transgender rights
In his discussion, Mr. Asif requested that the implementation of a 5% job quota for religious minorities in Pakistan should be ensured. While the Prevention and Marriage of Children Act 2015 require amendments such as revocation of the marriage certificate. In Sindh, women are deliberately kept away from education which is their constitutional right. Women should be provided equal rights in all walks of life.
He further said that the harassment law has been enacted in Pakistan. However, it has not been implemented. At the district level, the Pakistan Youth Loan Scheme has allocated quotas in interest-free loans for religious minorities, persons with disabilities, women, and eunuchs. Class access is not possible.
He further added that the allocation of education quota and job quota for the eunuch/Transgender community is also a matter of urgency while women are being paid less based on gender. The government of Pakistan should provide women with skills in universities, colleges, vocational centers, businesses, and jobs so that they too can earn respectable employment.
He said that it is also important to provide salaries to the elected representatives in the local government system as is important because through this the representative can perform better, they are providing their services at the lower level and they could not work without financial support. If they are not helped financially, it will be difficult for us to stop bribery and corruption.
While talking about the inclusion of persons with disabilities in the local government he said that it is an excellent message from the government of Pakistan. He requested that a Child Bureau Center should be set up in Jhang including other districts of Punjab So that the children there are provided necessities including education. On this occasion, other youth Participants also presented their petitions.
After the petitions, Ms. Aila Hamza Malik MNA expresses her views, she said that of course all these issues which you have pointed out were discussed by the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan and the party. We are already considering these issues on a priority basis. Giving her example, she said that she emerged as a woman leader who was not a traditional leader, and being a woman was a big challenge for her. She was a woman from an ordinary family who had an engineering degree. With higher education, I understand the social issues. I had no political background, so becoming an MNA and serving is a real change because one who does not have a political background can never become a government representative. She proudly said that Mian Mansha was his teacher who showed her the right path. Whether it is the system of local government or the Provincial Assembly or the Punjab Assembly, educated young men and women have to become part of this system and change the destiny of the country.
She also said that this government is working for the rights of religious minorities, persons with disabilities, women, eunuchs/Transgender, and off-course Common People. But there are still many shortcomings that she will talk to party leaders and would try to resolve at their earliest.
