According to the space agency, Chandrayaan-3 will get one step closer to the Moon as India observes International Moon Day in 2023. Earth-bound perigee firing, the fourth orbit-raising exercise, is successfully carried out from ISTRAC/ISRO, Bengaluru.

According to ISRO, Chandrayaan-3 has successfully reached its planned orbit of 71351 km x 233 km.

This indicates that Chandrayaan-3 is now in an orbit, which is 233 kilometres from Earth at its closest and 71,351 kilometres away at its farthest.

After separating from the propulsion module a few days after entering lunar orbit, the lander is scheduled to soft land on the moon's South Pole at 5:47 PM on August 23.

From a height of around 100 km above the moon's surface, the lander will descend to the lunar surface.

Soft landing is a challenging problem since it requires a sequence of difficult actions that include both harsh and precise braking. Before landing, imaging of the landing site area will be performed to identify safe and hazard-free zones.

The six-wheeled rover will move out and undertake tests after the soft landing.
