The process of eating is not to be done lazily. If you do not pay much attention to food, there are many diseases. There are many things that should be included and avoided in the diet. Similarly, there are some things that should not be done after eating a full stomach.
Many things we do after a full stomach have a negative effect. Let's see what things should not be done after eating
1. Working out
Never exercise immediately after eating. Do not do any exercise routines. Even if the stomach is not full. It causes digestive problems. It also causes stomach upset.
You can eat a full and balanced meal about two to three hours in advance of your workout. This way, your body has time to fully digest the nutrients in order to use them.
Examples of a great pre-workout meal include oatmeal or whole-grain toast with nut butter, an egg and a piece of fruit or a turkey sandwich on whole-grain bread. These foods contain the right combo of carbs, protein and fat to help you feel satiated while delivering glycogen, aka stored fuel, to your muscles.
Protein is particularly important for muscle recovery and growth, so getting your fill of it before your sweat session gives your body a steady stream of the muscle-building nutrient. Some great sources of lean protein are eggs, chicken, fish, lean, grass-fed beef, tempeh and tofu.
Healthy fats also help enhance exercise performance by providing fuel for long, endurance workouts. Some examples of healthy fats are nuts, seeds and avocados.
2. Sleep
Sleeping is something that most people do. Going to sleep right after eating is not a good habit. But sleeping right after eating can cause acid reflux. This can also cause stomach upset.
Eating right before going to bed is not recommended because it works against the body’s circadian rhythm.
When you eat just before going to sleep you do not give the body the proper time to digest and burn off the calories you have just ingested. Instead of being used as fuel for the day, those calories will be turned into fat and stored in the body.
Going to sleep directly after you eat means your body doesn’t get a chance to burn off those calories. In fact, eating a big meal and then hitting the couch can be just as harmful.
Eating an early dinner allows your body time to burn off extra calories before you go to sleep. Late-night snacks tend to be high-calorie foods — such as ice cream or potato chips — so it’s more important to watch the types of foods you are eating before sleep rather than when you are eating them.
3. Eating fruits
Eating fruits after meals is something that many people have become accustomed to. But eating some fruits can make digestion difficult. These cause problems like heartburn. Fruits can be consumed half an hour before meals or half an hour after meals.
We know that for good digestion, we need to consume fiber-rich foods. But some side effects of eating a lot of fruits are indigestion due to the high fiber content in fruits. They can also cause diarrhea, bloating, nutrient deficiencies, and other discomforts.
4. Smoking
Smoking is a health problem not only after meals but anytime. Smoking before or after meals can cause cancer.
Also, smoking particularly affects the irritation of the intestines. The digestive system works on the whole body, and nicotine binds with oxygen in the blood, because then it's more easily absorbed. Scientists warn that a cigarette after a meal dramatically increases the risk of bowel cancer and lung cancer.
5. Bath
There is a saying if you see someone taking a bath after food, take a bath. Blood flow is needed just as food is good for digestion. But with bathing, body temperature decreases and blood flow decreases. That is why it is said not to take a bath immediately after eating.
With our increasingly busy lifestyles, it becomes near to impossible to adopt the same healthy lifestyle our elders had. Hence, if you have been feeling tired and down and out lately, it is important to pay attention to your lifestyle habits. One such habit is knowing the correct time to bath. It is often said that one should not take a bath immediately after having food. Both Ayurveda and modern science have specific reasons behind the same.
