Why Swiss Medica’s O24™ Works for Pain Relief

Renowned Herbalist Discusses Active Mechanisms of Swiss Medicinal Products (OTC BB: SWME) O24 According to Mike Vertolli, who is recognized as one of Canada's leading herbalists, “although still in its infancy, research into herbal products and essential oils has grown significantly over the past decade .” Vertolli was a member of Health Canada's Natural Health Products Advisory Panel (the Canadian equivalent of the US Food and Drug Administration). They believe that the O24 Essential Oil pain relief product contains ingredients that can act as powerful anti-inflammatory agents. Vertolli explained that O24's pain relief ingredients have undergone rigorous clinical testing. This might help explain why O24 became widely accepted in a short time. Take for example carnosol, which is a naturally occurring phytopolyphenol found in rosemary. In a study published in the June 2002 issue of Carcinogenesis, biochemists investigating anticarcinogenic properties at the Institute of Biochemistry, College of Medicine, National Taiwan University found that carnosol can suppress the production of nitric oxide. This may help explain the anti-inflammatory action of the rosemary essential oil component in O24. Nitric oxide, which is released during inflammation, is a free radical that can damage DNA. Because cancer is often associated with conditions of chronic inflammation, O24 may be a potential alternative to anti-inflammatory drugs prescribed to cancer patients. Historically, rosemary has been used as an antispasmodic, but recent research confirms that its medicinal properties may be broader. According to the American Chemical Society, which recently named 1,8-cineole its "Molecule of the Week," there may be a scientific reason why O24 Essential Oil Pain Neutralizer outperformed other topical products in comparative tests. The cineole molecule is the main component of the essential oils of white camphor, eucalyptus and rosemary. It is also a minor component of peppermint essential oil. Cineol has analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting prostaglandin, thromboxane and leukotriene synthesis. Prostaglandin synthesis is one of the culprits that cause chronic pain that lasts for weeks, months or years. An entire class of anti-inflammatory drugs came into this culture in an effort to quell chronic pain by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis. Over the past few months, it has become widely known that this way of treating chronic pain can be deadly, that the solution is worse than the problem. "Most people look at inflammation as if it's a bad thing," Vertolli said. Like any physiological response, it has a purpose. Inflammation is an integral part of the healing process. If we apply a product that simply disrupts inflammation, it also disrupts healing. This is not a problem with O24 because of the rubefacient (local vasodilator) effects that increase blood flow to the area (thereby providing better access to oxygen and nutrients and facilitating the removal of waste products and toxins) and because they contain ingredients that actually stimulate tissue healing.Vertolli may be suggesting that a workable solution for most pain sufferers may have been right under their noses throughout the twentieth century until today: essential oils. What are essential oils? They are not the same as perfumes or fragrance oils, some of which are artificially created or contain artificial substances. Essential oils contain the true essence of the plant from which the oil comes. An essential oil often does not feel greasy because it is a liquid usually distilled from the leaves, stems, flowers, bark or roots of a plant. Essential oils are highly concentrated and a little goes a long way.
