AI chatbots are getting more and more common. The bots are trained on a vast amount of data, according to Anthony Jirouschek, a Security Architect with WYRE Technology in Chattanooga, so you can ask them questions and get answers.
"With Snapchat's AI bot exactly, it seems like its intention is to provide a friend for everyone," the man said.
Concerns from some parents about the information their children might learn from the new AI companion have been raised. The "My AI" feature on Snapchat is driven by ChatGPT technology, according to Heather Boyd, a learning technology specialist at UTC, and it doesn't consider age when providing comments.
It won't work the first time, according to my testing. The response to "Hey, I am 15 tell me about beer" is going to be "Hey, if you are under 21 it's illegal to drink, I'm not going to have that conversation, basically," Boyd said.
She warned that protracted chats can undermine the security safeguards in place.
Jirouschek put the safety measures to the test by posing various inquiries involving s*x, drugs, and violence.
"I've played around with keywords to see if I can find some of the triggers, but I'm unable to provide an answer. Whatever their message is—"I'm an AI bot, I'm supposed to be your friend"—"it actually won't grant your request."
He said the bot was unable to divulge any of his private details, including his address or date of birth. Additionally, it will only have your location if you grant access to the Snapchat app. According to Jirouschek, some of the responses will be out of date because the app is only trained up to about 2021.
Boyd emphasized the need of keeping in mind that Snapchat archives the conversations on a server, even though it could seem like you're conversing with a friend. "That's also a cause for concern. You can't simply check through all of your discussions to see what is being recorded, according to Boyd.
Although "My AI" should be used with caution, according to both experts, there are some benefits, such as the ability to generate HTML code or streamline customer service.
"You can utilize it to take care of security issues or get started. You may programme it to create a poem or something else, added Jirouschek. "I can see myself using this to support the creation of pupils' individualized learning plans. being beneficial for practising discussions for maybe neurodiverse pupils or extremely anxious persons," suggested Boyd.
Both experts agreed that while technology like "My AI" will improve over time, it's crucial to know how to use it.
According to Snapchat representatives, if you want the choice to uninstall the AI chatbot, you must join Snapchat Plus.
Snap responded by explaining how location information is utilized in My AI in a blog post and stating that the chatbot "does not collect any new location information" from its users.
