Ratnagiri is a natural gold mine and a beautiful place of Konkan. Ratnagiri is a district in the Indian state of Maharashtra

Ratnagiri is a district located on the Arabian Sea and is a major port on the west coast of India.

The historical significance of Ratnagiri and the history of many parts of the district are interesting, revolutionary, and inspiring.

Major rivers in Ratnagiri district include Kajali, Kev, Bor, Gad, Muchkundi, Vashishti, Shastri, Jagbudi, Savitri, Bav. 

These major rivers originate in the Sahyadri Mountains and flow into the Arabian Sea.


 

 Places to visit in Ratnagiri include caves, forts, religious sites, hot springs, and beaches.

 

 Caves:

 Panhalekaji Caves -


 There is an ancient group of 29 caves at Panhalekaji in Dapoli on the confluence of the  Dhakti rivers.

After traveling 20 km through the hilly areas of Dapoli taluka, you can see an amazing group of Panhalekaji caves near Nante village on Dapoli Dabhol road. 

The excavation of this group of caves began in the second or third century and is believed to have continued for many centuries to come.

 

 Buddhist caves:


 The caves are famous for their Buddhist sculptures.  From this Khed bus stand is close. 

The work of these caves is incomplete and consists of two pillars, a half pillar, and a chaitya.

 

 Religious places:

 

 Ganpatipule:


 Ganpatipule is a famous religious place in Ratnagiri district. 

Due to the natural idols perched in a vast area of ​​the Sahyadri mountains and the Arabian Sea to the west, this temple is very popular among tourists.

The sunset on the banks of Ganpatipule in the evening twilight makes your trip to Konkan unforgettable. Tourists can stay and eat here.

 Maheshwar:

Maheshwar Waterfall is located in Marleshwar of Ratnagiri district. It is a cave temple and is circumvented with sacred grooves.

The presiding deity is Lord Shiva. The Marleshwar Yatra, which takes place during the Makar Sankranti, is a major event of this temple. Near the temple, the Dhareshwar waterfall can be seen.

 

 Monastery:

 Shivsrushti, Dervan:


 About 2 km from Savarde village on Mumbai-Goa highway.  At a distance stands the beautiful Shivsrushti of Dervan. 

Various historical events from the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Raja have been carved in the fortified walls of Shiv Samarth fort erected here.

 The various events created through the beautiful sculptures literally feel alive and keep the viewers hooked. 

 

The sculpture of Shiva's coronation is unique. The surroundings of the Samadhi temple near Shivsrishti are also very picturesque and quiet. 

Tourists can visit Shivsrushti from 8 am to 6 pm.

 

 Forts :

 

 There are many forts in Ratnagiri district. Among them are Ambolgad, Gopalgad, Govindgad, Raigad, Purnagad, Palgad, Bhavanigad, Mahipagad, Mahimandangad, Yashwantgad, Ratnadurg, Rasalgad, Vijaygad and Suvarnadurg.

 

 Hot springs:

 

 Rajwadi -


 On the Mumbai-Goa highway, from Kasba Sangameshwar to Chiplun, at a distance of about 4 km, there are hot springs at Rajwadi.

A pool is built especially for bathing in the hot springs, and one can enjoy bathing in hot water.

 

  Rural:

There is a hot water tank of about 1 to 2 km from the hot water tank at Rajwadi. There are about 14 such hot springs between Tural and Rajwadi villages.



 Occupation :

The local man from Ratnagiri is very hardworking.  They live their lives happily with the few resources provided by nature. 

Similarly, among the fruit crops, many crops like mango, cashew, coconut, betel nut, locust, kokum, and spices are grown in Ratnagiri... 

The fish auction at the port is a sight behold. Considering the agribusiness of Ratnagiri, paddy or rice is the major crop in the district, and the Fishing business is rampant in many major ports like Harne, Ratnagiri, Mirya, and Nate.

Another business that caters to the need for jambha stone in Konkan and always provides employment to the locals is 'Chirakhan.'

 Mango:  


 Mango is the fruit for which Ratnagiri is known. Hapus Mango of Ratnagiri is famous all over the world. 

Hapus Mango of Ratnagiri is very popular among all. There are many mango orchards in Ratnagiri.


 Similarly, in Ratnagiri, locusts, cashew, coconut, karwand, and kokum are available for consumption.
