"Depression is when you wake up screaming and realize you are not sleeping" Unknown What mother could not write a book about the effects of depression? Is there a mother out there who is so unfamiliar with everything that makes her blood pressure rise, her head throb, and her stomach burns with acid, making perfectly beautiful women into a fire-breathing dragon? Depression is part of the definition of motherhood. In fact, if you do a search for the top ten stress on the job you will find that it is just a description of a normal day in a mother’s life. So what should the mother do? Well, believe it or not, there are some simple things a mother can do to reduce her stress and cope with her daily routine. Here are a few things to start with. • Breathe - yes, it sounds easy, but when did you last breathe so much? Deep breathing clears the old air from your lungs, rejuvenates your brain, and helps you lose weight! It is true! Here's a test to try the next time you start boiling. Using your abdominal muscles, fill your lungs completely to five (count fast!) And hold your breath for 20 (thus quickly counting half - you don't want to get out!) And then completely exhale your lungs. 10 count. Do this five times in a row, 2 to 3 times a day. This is great for the first thing in the morning and the last thing at night. • Sun Yourself - According to Dr. Marie-Annette Brown and Jo Robinson, authors of the book When When Your Body Gets the Blues, need 20-30 minutes of daily light. Their research shows that “bright light is essential (as it) enhances your mood, reduces your appetite, and gives you more energy. It even increases blood flow to your brain, improves your memory, and sharpens your ability to think. ” • Take the Mountain - Wendy Bumgardner, About.com's "Walking Guide", reports that one study of 50 different women became a rebel group. they walk fast 45 minutes a day, 5 days a week, and the non-exercise control group found that pedestrians experience half as many fevers as the control group. Pedestrians also show an increase in the number of natural killer cells, antibodies that attack bacteria and viruses. Another study of fitness programs has shown that people who exercise less than once a week make an average of five fewer sick days each year than those who have not participated in such programs • Follow Your Nose - Use the benefits of Aromatherapy to quickly reduce stress. 2-3 drops of Lavender Essential Oil on a fabric hankie can be delivered in your pocket. When stress strikes, put a hankie in your nose and breathe deeply 3-4 times (actually, you can save time and combine this activity with the first one to get the effect of “double humming”!) • Trip the Light Fantastic - Wear some fun music , and dance. Don't worry about your appearance. In fact, take your kids to the park with a boom box, and dance together. Invite others to join you. Create a party! • Laugh! - rent a funny movie, and laugh. Laughter is one of the leading health issues today. Make the most of it, and try and have one fun laugh every day. So the next time you feel stressed, instead of taking out the pills, take a deep breath of lavender scent, while walking and dancing around the block in the sunlight. Now, that is a heavy load of stress!
