Music is an art. It influences us in many ways. So, music should be good.
Nowadays, KPOP is one of the most popular music genres. But there was always controversy. So, some like it, some hate it. I have been a KPOP listener for four years. And I will try to explain KPOP neutrally.
KPOP stands for Korean Pop. The Korean music industry is different from what we always see in the music industry.
A big part of the pop industry is pop bands. But, there are also solo artists.
In this first part, I will write about pop bands. A pop band consisting of many members. And each member selected as their specialty. Then what is their specialty?
We generally know that a band always need vocal, instrument member. But in pop, besides the main vocal, there would be a lead vocal. Almost every group has a rapper, at least. Kpop's one of the most important elements is performance or dance. So, there always will be a dancer. Though kpop bands all members should know the dance, there is always the main dancer.
Every pop group has a visual member who is in charge of fashion, charm, etc. So, these bands are not like bands we knew.
Kpop groups are debuted under a music label or company. YG, SM Entertainment, JYP is called a big three company. But worldwide famous group BTS are from Bighit Entertainment.
In pop groups, each member should know the dance. Because their act is not just music, it's a full performance.
Each pop group follows their concepts. Every group has a style and concept.
Kpop fashion is different; it broke the gender boundary of fashion.
Pink is not a female color in pop. Earring also is not for only girls. Mainly, K-pop boy members use earrings more than girls. They wear lipsticks. In the pop world, a male can be cute. Toxic masculinity is not in pop. There came a controversy.
Kpop fashion makes boys look quite cute. So, this is it which hate many.
On the other hand, there are many kinds of pop bands. There is a band in which a member is mostly vocal members. So, that is a vocal group. That kind of group mainly focused on vocal. There are performance bands that are mostly concerned about catchy melody with a catchy dance.
Kpop members can sing, but they sometimes use it. Many think that they can't sing. I watched pop for four years, and I watched their autotuned song's live performance without autotune and its best. They can sing.
Because they trained for years under their company, there's no chance that they can't sing.
Lipsync is another complaint by haters on pop. It's true in a difficult way. Because singing is difficult when dancing. Kpop always has hard choreographies. So, they lipsync and also sing in a single performance. They do both in performance. Because singing is not always stable at a performance. But honestly, there are bands which are less but more in another way. We will talk about a band in the second part. And also talk about solo artists.
