Why should one serve parents and elders?
One who does not serve his parents, one who troubles his parents, one who makes them sad can never become great.
Such a person can never progress in the spiritual path. According to Srimad Bhagavatam, when Gokarna came home after a long penance, his house was deserted. There is a complete desolation.
When he entered, his house was empty. Somehow arranged to stay the night. Terrifying sounds started coming to them at night. Like suddenly, a wild boar is running inside his room. Then the cries of owl and cat started coming.
Gokarna understood what this is? He said in a shrill voice - who are you? Wow?
Hearing the howling sound of Gokarna, suddenly the sound of crying started coming. Nothing was visible; the only sound was coming.
Then that voice said - Brother! I am blurry I am your brother Dhundkari. I'm in a lot of trouble. I am distraught. I'm hungry; I can't eat anything. Even if I feel thirsty, I cannot drink. Although I do not have a body, I keep feeling as if I am burning. Sometimes I am here, and sometimes they're due to the gusts of wind. I can't even stay in one place. My brother! I'm in a lot of trouble. I have become a ghost.
Gokarna ji says - Dhundkari! How can you be a ghost? I have donated the pind in your pilgrimage to Gaya.
Dhundkari - I troubled my father so much that he could not bear it and went to the jungles because of me. After he left, I used to take money from my mother for liquor, for eating meat, etc. Mother, when she refused, I used to beat my mother. Mother was so upset with my atrocities, my bad behavior that she committed suicide by jumping into the well.
Brother! How can one who has caused so much trouble to his parents? How can he be blessed with Pind Daan? Brother! You think of some other solution.
How can Dhundkari be good, for that Gokarnji asked the Sun God?
?
Sun God said - Gokarna! Advised. Bhagavad- Bhakti alone, the story of Srimad Bhagavatam, or the story of Sri Krishna can do the welfare of Dhundkari, and there is no other way.
After that, Shri Gokarna Ji organized the Shrimad Bhagavatam Katha by gathering all the people of the village. Organized kirtan of the glory of Lord Shri Krishna. There, a bamboo was buried so that it could remain foggy. He should not be deprived of the story because of the gusts of wind.
In this way, listening to the glories of Sri Krishna, listening to the story of Srimad Bhagavatam, Dhundkari was blessed.
Otherwise, he had committed so many sins in life that it was impossible for him to get rid of them. Because the parents who gave birth to us, the parents who taught, educated, raised us with so much pain, the parents who left their happiness for our happiness, if there is no service to those parents. If someone hurts or troubles those parents, then how will God tolerate them?
That's why one who does not serve his parents troubles his parents and can never become great.
