The term "Sargodha" has its origin in the words SAR, meaning "pond" and GOTHA, meaning "sadhu". There are several theories about the origin of this name. One theory is that it is derived from the Sanskrit Sargodha meaning "heavenly abode". If so, the it would give rise to Sargodha, in Punjabi. The most famous theory is that there was a pond in the middle of the city where the Hindu resident, GOD HA, lived. In Punjabi, SAR, is used for a pond, so it is named as "Sargodha" which means "Pond of God ha. This is also a bit contradictory as the word order does not reflect Punjabi usage. i.e. Amritsar, pool of sectors. The city of Sargodha was founded by Lady Trooper in 1903. As a district headquarters since 1940, Sargodha was elevated to the status of a divisional headquarters in 1960. It is one of the planned cities of the region where Pakistan is now located. It is only 1 hour and 33 minutes from Faisalabad, which is the center of textile industry in Pakistan. Sargodha has a typical Punjabi culture. The people of Sargodha are very peaceful and patient. It is truly a culturally and religiously diverse city with Muslims being the majority, Christians being the second majority and Hindus being the third in number. Since the creation of Pakistan, there has never been a fight between people of different sects or religions. This city has always been of greater strategic importance to the Pakistan Air Force, which has its largest base here in this city. This base is surrounded by the famous Karina Hills, which protects it from attack by enemy jets. This city has also been mentioned in the reports of the American intelligence service "CIA", whose agents still believe that Pakistan kept its nuclear weapons under a centralized security system under the Karina Hills. The British Royal Air Force also built an airport in Sargodha during the British Raj because of its strategic location. People of Sargodha have great eating habits. There are several hotels and restaurants where people go and enjoy food with their families. One of the famous restaurants is Karina Bar Restaurant. One of the famous food hubs in Sargodha is Khayyam Chock. Khayyam Chock's Samosa and Pagoda's, are very famous among the people of Sargodha. Another trend that people from Sargodha have is that they not only go to regular restaurants, but are also big lovers of food in truck driver hotels. They go with their families to these truck driver hotels which are outside Sargodha city and enjoy the food which is very spicy. The trend of education in Sargodha is also very good. The people of rural Sargodha also pay great attention to the education of their children. They send their children to schools and boarding schools, with the schools and boarding schools mainly located in the city of Sargodha, which is 2-3 km away. There are a number of schools and colleges. There is also one government university called "SARGODHA UNIVERSITY" in Sargodha. It also has one medical college named "SARGODHA MEDICAL COLLEGE" which has given an average result of 99.9% in its first three years of establishment from 2009 to 2011 and has become the 4th medical institute in Punjab and 7th in Pakistan due to its quality education. . The number of students going to schools and colleges can be known from the fact that it is the only district in Pakistan where each school or college system has more than 2 branches due to the large number of students.
People of Sargodha are very patriotic. They have been honored with many presidential awards because of their great support to Pakistan Army and Air Force during the Pak-Indo wars of 1965 and 1971. Although the image of Pakistan Army is very bad today because of its alliance with the US Army, still the people of Sargodha show great support to Pakistan Army. Sargodha is also very famous for its glowing and lush green orange orchards. It is the largest Kinno producing area in the world and is called the "California of Pakistan". The quality of Kinno's production here is known all over the world and plays an important role in improving and strengthening the economy of Pakistan. It also has one canal which originates from the river Jhelum. This canal is the main source of agriculture in this district. Sargodha also has one textile mill named "SULTAN TEXTILE MILL". This mill is the main source of income for the poor people of Sargodha. Sargodha also has many rice processing plants and juice factories which also help the people of Sargodha to earn a living. The rice processing plants include a factory of famous Pakistani rice processing group called OMNI, RICE MILLS Pvt. Ltd. In the juice factory sector, there are two main groups of juice manufacturers operating their factories in Sargodha district. One is "Nestle" and the other is Shezan, These factories are certainly not enough for the people of Sargodha, who are about half a million at present. Most people earn their living through agriculture and educated people also work in government and public sector to earn a living for their families. Sargodha's culture is a great blend of rural and urban culture. The people of Sargodha still follow the typical rural values that are considered the beauty of Pakistani culture, but they have modernized their lifestyle with the help of technology. As the education rate is very high, the voting rate in Sargodha district is very high. Sargodha district has 6 National Assembly seats and 12 Punjab Provincial Assembly seats. In these total 18 seats people of Sargodha have always cast their votes in favor of candidates who are well-educated, honest and have good moral character without any distinction of caste, race, party and religion. This shows that the problems that Pakistan is currently facing can be easily solved if we provide equal level of education to the people and make them aware. This will help us to make Pakistan a developed country. Sargodha is very famous in Punjab for its festivals. Sargodha organizes “MELA MAWESHIAN” every year. It is so popular that Sargodha cricket stadium is known as MELA, MAWESHIAN, GROUND. Sargodha has given Pakistan some great Kabbadi, and cricket players. In kabbadi Malik Muhammad Ahmad Hayyat Lumbardar is known internationally. In cricket, Muhammad Hafeez, current captain of T20 team of Pakistan and AIZ Cheema, fast bowler of Pakistan cricket team. Rana Naveen UL Hassan also belongs to Sargodha.
