Picture of Charlie Chaplin pasted in vanity van
This was my inspiration for the role of Jayesh. I got this picture made of a poster of four by four and pasted it in my vanity van. It gave me every clue that I needed to before going out to be Jayesh.

Ranveer Singh: Jayeshbhai is India Answer to Charlie Chaplin

Ranveer says, “Jayeshbhai is a character that has no reference in the history of Hindi cinema, but if I have to be parallel with anyone in terms of behaviour, it has to be with Charlie Chaplin. Charlie Chaplin had this unique ability to endure and play with his pain as an artist. His situation was always very sad but he was able to deal with it through the power of humour."
He continued, "Tragedy comedy resonates deeply with me, which is why 'Life is Beautiful' is my favorite film of all time. To bear someone's pain and play with it. To take pain and light it is to live life. It's a beautiful way."
Ranveer revealed that he put a picture of Chaplin in his vanity during the shoot of Jayeshbhai Jordaar and used it to bring Jayeshbhai to life on screen.
He says, "I saw a picture of Chaplin during my research, he had tears in his eyes and yet he looked absolutely comical. From above it looks like a funny picture of Chaplin but if you look at his eyes If I look closely you will see that he is in tears. That was my driving force for Jayesh. I blew this picture up to about 4 feet by 4 feet and stuck it in my vanity van. It made me emotional all that much And gave the character cues that I needed before I went out to perform Jayesh."
A hilarious satire on society – Jayeshbhai Jordaar produced by Maneesh Sharma also stars Arjun Reddy fame Shalini Pandey, who makes her Bollywood big screen debut opposite Ranveer. The film is directed by debutant Divyang Thakkar and is releasing worldwide on May 13, 2022.
