Why PROTON recorded the best sales this year

PROTON recorded the best monthly performance in June which included domestic and export sales of 14,787 units, in line with the company's ongoing efforts to resolve component supply issues. The performance was an increase of 51 per cent over the previous month and further increased the first half -year sales volume to 60,124 units, an increase of 3.9 per cent over the same period last year.

Overall, PROTON maintains its second position in the automotive industry, with an estimated current market share of 22.6 per cent. Meanwhile, the total annual market share recorded 18.2 percent, a decrease of 5.1 percent over the first six months of last year. The total industry volume (TIV) is estimated at 331,164 units. The Proton X50 recorded the highest monthly sales, while four models led their respective segments. Since its launch on October 27, 2020, Proton X50 sales have become a phenomenon for PROTON, helping the company emerge as a leader in the sports utility vehicle (SUV) segment in the country. Last month, the Proton X50 recorded the best monthly sales with 4,473 units registered and led the B-segment SUV and overall SUV market. Not to be outdone, the update for the recently launched X70 model, achieved its best performance over a 20-month period with 2,969 units which also allowed it to maintain its position as the sales leader for the C-segment SUV. Among the other models that also benefited from the renewal was the Proton Saga 2022 which was introduced on May 12, 2022, when a total of 5,460 units were registered last month, further propelling it back to the top rung of the A-segment sedan class and driving annual sales to 23,484 units.

The fourth segment leader for June was the Proton Exora, which maintained its number one position in the C-segment multipurpose vehicle (MPV) class with 513 units registered. Finally, the Proton Persona and Proton Iriz achieved sales of 1,224 units and 421 units, placing both in third and fourth position in their respective segments. PROTON Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Roslan Abdullah, said June was a busy month for the automotive industry, with most brands striving to produce as many vehicles as possible to meet market demand. He said the announcement that the sales and service tax (SST) incentive would end on July 1 also prompted bookings as customers rushed to take advantage of the savings on offer. He said PROTON received more than 150,000 orders for the first six months of this year and if added to the orders received in 2021, the company would have to work hard to ensure vehicle deliveries were done as quickly as possible to meet customer demand.

We are thankful that the component supply issue can be resolved in stages, it can not only increase production, but also have a positive impact on the after -sales network. PAs promised, all our 3S/4S branches now have a three -month stock of fast moving components (FMP) and this is replicated in our spare parts warehouse. “Supply issues for other components are also being resolved  and we hope to provide a better level of after -sales service to our customers soon,” he said.
