It would be great if we could all succeed in the first or fifth attempt, but for many people that is not enough. We usually have a lot to learn about food, nutrition, and what works best for us, before we can be successful. Statistics can tell us that most people who try to lose weight (some say 95%) fail miserably or have short-term success. But I like to look at these statistics in a different way, a way that gives us a chance to succeed. Do all the people who try to lose weight work hard at it? I have not consulted with the rest of the world to find this, but it is fair to say that the answer is no. People are different, and their amount of effort on the diet should vary. Are you willing to work hard on your diet? Maybe you are willing to work harder than average, or maybe you will work in the 90th percentile. If you work hard at it, you are more likely to be satisfied with the results. If you are seriously committed to losing weight, it means you have just jumped over half of the other people trying to do the same. Another problem I have with the above statistics is that the dieters mentioned have different levels of information about proper nutrition. All we know is "the vast majority of dieters," such as "Buckets O 'Chocolate", "Krispy Kreme Krazy Dayz", or "Hershey's Syrup" liquid food. So, just because someone says you are eating, does not mean you are doing it right. If you do not have this information, go find it by reading a nutrition book, browsing the internet, talking to friends and experts, or finding information wherever you can. Once you have done that, you can skip over the suspected dieters. My last problem with "Statistic of Fear and Doom" (as I call 95% of failure statistics) is that most of those people who are trying to lose weight have almost stopped after the first few attempts. Back in the 1980's, I had a few other roommates who wanted to lose more than twenty pounds. They seem to be especially careful about their diet, setting goals, and encouraging themselves. I wish them success and hope they can help inspire me to lose weight. But after only five weeks, they decided it was too hard, and they returned to their world of pizza and beer. Five weeks is not enough time, and they didn’t even want to analyze what went wrong (though I can tell you it was just pizza and beer). You can easily skip a frog on these people who give up just by fighting. If you promise you will not give up, I will promise you the best chance of success. I almost gave up a few times myself. I put myself under so much pressure during college that I decided I could not worry about my weight. I was very worried about getting “good” grades, so I could get “good,” work, “good,” wife, “nice” house, “good,” promotions and a “nice,” retirement package. . My message to you is that you should not give up your food or yourself. Statistics are not as bad as they seem if you are really serious about learning nuts and food bolts. Please note that if you work hard, learn about healthy eating and eating habits, and don’t give up, you are more than a mile away from other dieters. Now go and lose weight so I can tell the world to help someone today.
