Why Not Use This Marriage Saving Tip?
Do you think it would be much easier if your spouse did everything the way you do? Most of the time, this is not the case.
So you're married to your opposite pole, your marriage is stressful and you can't even decide what to have for dinner. Does this mean that unless one of you gives up, you will be subject to the bitter battle of "his way your way" for the rest of your life?
Number! There is no need to argue about "who does what and how". First of all, neither of you need to change who you are.
You are about to discover the single most important marriage-saving tip that will significantly reduce the stress you have with your spouse. If you understand what you and your partner value in life, you can cut your relationship stress in half! (Just like I did with my wife!)
This is true. After I changed my OWN marriage, I developed this marriage-saving tip. My 32 years of marriage is PROOF THAT this marriage saving tip WORKS FOR YOU!
Lets start...
The first step is to talk to your partner about things you strongly believe in or strongly disagree with.
You can start by talking about the little inconveniences in your life (and no, I don't mean your partner!) ;-)
Let me give an example...
My wife hates chewing gum. I'm not talking about people who chew gum silently with their mouths closed; I'm talking about people who notice EVERYONE when they put a piece of gum in their mouth.
They chew and chew their gums with their mouths wide open. Yes, I know it sounds trivial, but it's driving him crazy.
If I didn't know WHY this little pet rage was driving him 'crazy', I would have thought he was crazy. If he starts verbally attacking the nearest "annoying gum chewer", I can get angry and annoyed.
Now let's get to the part of the tip that saved this marriage that most people don't know...
EVERYTHING from your pet's rustles, habits, or BELIEFS is the result of a past memory or event.
Take my wife, for example. She hates people who pop her gums because her mother has done this all her childhood, regardless of their feelings. My wife hated him back then and still does. It just evokes so many painful memories.
To him, chewing gum is equivalent to hammering a nail into a chalkboard or squeaking a fork on a plate.
The main idea to take away from this marriage recovery tip is that you should talk to your spouse about why you do some things the way you do, why you dislike some things, and why you love others.
NOTE: Be sure to discuss the "problem areas" of your marriage. After all, that's the point of this discussion. Give your partner your thoughts on 'hot topics' in your marriage, such as punctuality, family values, religion, eating habits and even personal privacy.
Ask your partner questions and get them to do the same. Information about...
1. "Did your mom or dad have a hard time making time for you when you were younger?"
2. "What made you despise clutter and clutter so much as a kid?"
WARNING: Don't make this sound accusatory! If you do, your positive talk will be over!
When you ask these questions to your partner, they'll likely have a hard time finding words or will quickly give an explanation of WHY they're doing it.
And that's fine. Try to revive his memory by remembering your own experiences on this subject...
For example:
"I _ (fill in the blank) _ because my family _ (fill in the blank) ___ when I was a kid."
Remember that your parents or guardians have taught you and your partner how to live. They have influenced much of what you value and believe in today. The purpose of this conversation is to find out WHY the two of you disagree on anything. This will make it easier for the two of you to accept each other because you will no longer be threatened by your very different life values.
That is all. Instead of focusing on the 'little problems', use this marriage-saving tip to get to the root of your problems (like chewing gum). If you don't know what values are causing conflict in your marriage, you'll never really be able to resolve your conflicts.
The stress in my marriage was SIGNIFICANTLY reduced when I finally realized WHY my wife's values were so different from mine. I'm sure you'll discover the same thing when you apply this marriage-saving tip to your own marriage.
