Darwinbox, a Jakarta-based Human Resource (HR) technology platform, has acquired a $ 72 million investment (approximately Rp. 1 trillion). They claim to have received unicorn-level money as a result of this investment.Salesforce Ventures, Sequoia Capital, Lightspeed, SCB 10X, JGDEV, Endiya Partners, and 3One4Capital are among the permanent investors in the round headed by Technology Crossover Ventures (TCV).Darwinbox now has a market capitalization of more than $1 billion, according to a press statement issued on Sunday (30/1/2022).Since the latest funding from Salesforce Ventures a year ago, Darwinbox claims to have expanded by 300 percent in Indonesia."This investment validates our commitment to continue building solutions that help enterprises to bring out the best in their workers," stated Darwinbox Co-Founder Jayant Paleti. Before joining McKinsey as an engagement manager, Darwinbox's CEO Chennamaneni worked at Google as a search quality analyst. Paleti formerly worked as a consultant for Deloitte and EY, while Peddi was a product analyst for Verizon Wireless and a senior consultant for EY.
Darwinbox, a cloud-based Human Capital Management (HCM) platform, was launched in late 2015 with the purpose of serving HR demands across the employee lifetime. Over 1.5 million employees from more than 650 firms use their solutions to support digital HR. TCV General Partner Gopi Vaddi stated, "We are pleased to invest in a visionary creator that can fundamentally disrupt a major industry with a terrific product." TCV is most recognised for its investments in Netflix, Facebook (Meta), Spoify, Airbnb, GoDaddy, and Zillow, among other digital companies.
Darwinbox's worldwide development goals will be aided by this fresh capital, which will expedite platform innovation, enhance internals, and expand the company's footprint in other industry areas. Over the next six months, Darwinbox plans to invest significantly and grow its Jakarta office to over 100 employees. Former Netflix Chief Talent Officer and TCV Venture Partner Jessica Neal believes that investing in HR management technologies is critical to the company's success. "Darwinbox's ability to provide quick, imaginative, and easy solutions while also understanding the demands of its consumers has earned them the trust of a major corporation," Neal added.
According to Dev Khare, a partner at Lightspeed Venture Partners, Darwinbox is one of a batch of entrepreneurs that are building for the global market from Asia. "I am a firm believer in Asia's SaaSification. In 2019, he said on LinkedIn, "I sense rising pull in the market for Asia-facing SaaS startups, a sea shift from what I witnessed five years ago." "You could wonder why SaaS for Asia has to exist as a category at all. Why can't suppliers from the United States or Europe maintain their dominance in this market? In my opinion, these Western retailers never truly controlled the market, but rather simply skimmed the top."What's actually occurring in India/Asia is that firms that have never used packaged apps before, or personnel (such as blue collar workers) who have never used technology before, are suddenly leapfrogging from paper-based and manual procedures to SaaS," he said.
Darwinbox intends to use the additional capital to grow its personnel and accelerate its worldwide development objectives. It also plans to expand its product offerings to include a variety of ancillary services and solutions that businesses may integrate into their HR IT ecosystem.
