Why Money Can Not Buy You Happiness

I am sure there will be many people who read this article and will think I am rather mad. Honestly, I don't care. In this article, I write my humble opinion about the most important thing in life, health and happiness.

All that most of my friends talk about is money:

 What car do you drive?

How much is your house worth?

 How much do you earn?

How much did your suit cost?

Where are you going on holiday this year?

I find all of this very boring and think that they are rather sad. They seem to be in some sort of competition, and they are basically obsessed with money.

I will give you an example of one such friend, his name is John. He never seems to be talking about anything else and is always looking for quick rich schemes. He is also a member of the Lottery Syndicate, which has about fifty members. Each member pays about ten pounds per week. Joe likes to go on social media on Saturday nights, but soon gets his feet itchy during the lottery draw. A few minutes later he would go to the washroom where he would call his girlfriend. She took with her to the toilet a piece of paper whose number and a small pen. His girlfriend tells him which numbers are drawn, John will then spend about twenty minutes checking his numbers, and then re-checking if he has any winning lines.

Next up, accept the feeling. Become OK with the fact that you are feeling it. For more on how to accept things in your life, again, dig out the article from a previous edition of “Adam Up” that was all about that, it is there in the archive on my website.

Eventually he returns to the group, who seem very keen (apart from me) to find out how much he has won/lost. To date he has won a small amount, but he is sure that one day he will be a millionaire. He would then start talking about the lottery, asking other people what they would buy if they were ever lucky enough to win. At this point, I became very upset and started wishing I could stay home and watch football.

For me, the two most important things in life are health and happiness. These are two things that cannot be bought with money. A few years ago, my father fell ill. He was in a really bad way and had to spend about five months in the hospital. Her illness was a big shock to me because she was only 57 years old. I was afraid of the worst, even though I was trying my best to think and stay positive. I remember thinking that if I gave my all to those doctors in the world, it wouldn't do him any good. I felt powerless and realized at that moment that money was just paper.

Happiness is the same, I remember at the age of twenty-one having lots of money and had been surprised that I was depressed at the same time. Other times I had no money, and I was very happy.
