In the world of perfume design and manufacturing, perfumes are a mixture of complex chemical oils, aromatic compounds, cosmetics, solvents, fine bottles and celebrity-approved marketing. However, for those who wear fragrances, the final product is more than just the sum of its components: for many, perfume is a very popular personal fitness item, as important as dressing or brushing your teeth. A quick visit to the cosmetics section and personal care of any department store reveals a variety of perfumes available on the market, with many more available exclusively at high-end perfume stores or outdoor stores. There are so many options, in fact, that knowing what to buy can be confusing. Depending on the composition of the chemical and the amount of aromatic oils and solvents, perfumes usually fall into one of the following categories: Fragrances (20% -40% aromatic compounds), eau de perfume (10% -30% aromatic compounds), eau de toilet (5% -20% aromatic compounds) or eau de cologne (2% -3% aromatic compounds). If a fragrant mixture is used the aroma will last a long time. Perfumes are composed of many ingredients, so it can be difficult to describe the effect as just one scent. However, it is possible to identify the different fragrances it offers, such as how a person who knows wine can taste different flavors of its composition. Fragrances are generally classified into olfactive families such as flowers (descriptive), Chypre (used to describe an apricot-like aroma), Fougère (a woody or oily scent), skin (honey, tobacco, or wood-based fragrances so named because they remind the skin) , woody (such as sandalwood-, cedar- or patchouli), amber (vanilla or animal scent), and citrus (refreshing). ‘Notes’ are another way of describing or distinguishing fragrances and the way they smell as they evaporate from the skin for a long time. • Top notes: this is what one first sees after applying perfume. High notes are usually pleasant and powerful, but they evaporate quickly. • Medium notes: also called ‘heart notes’ medium notes and fragrances are considered as the main body of the perfume, and are usually less powerful than high notes. Medium notes appear anywhere from a few minutes to more than an hour after the application of the perfume. • Basic notes: permanent impressions from the use of perfumes, basic notes that give off the scent of their depth due to the capture of the corrective power used in perfumery. The creation of the art of perfumes is said to have been practiced by the Egyptians, but perfumes are widely accepted around the world for use as a religious practice in some Islamic cultures, to hide the purity of early European civilization, and to absorb a little poison! Today, however, perfumes and colognes are used by both men and women to enhance their appearance and appeal. Many consider a fragrance to be a part of their identity, and because of this honesty, a well-known fragrance, such as No 5 by Chanel, has been around for over a century. Although perfume is popular, most people do not like it, so make sure that the scent you choose does not irritate anyone before you wear it in a crowded place.
