On the other hand, Mr. Bhargava emphasized a seven-day home quarantine for all contacts of any positive case in accordance with the rules and said that they should continue to wear masks.

Referring to the newly announced ICMR Advisory on Purposive Testing Strategy for COVID-19 in India, he stated that symptomatic people, even if they test negative on a home test or rapid-antigen test, should have an RT-PCR test.

The advice states that testing can be done using RT-PCR, TrueNat, CBNAAT, CRISPR, RT-LAMP, Rapid Molecular Testing Systems, or the rapid-antigen test.

A positive point-of-care and molecular test is deemed confirmed, with no further testing required. Individuals who are symptomatic and test negative on a home/self-test or a rapid-antigen test should have an RT-PCR test, according to the advice.

Symptomatic patients, at-risk contacts (elderly and those with comorbidities), and laboratory-confirmed cases may be examined in community settings.

Individuals who travel internationally may also be examined.

In hospital settings, testing may be performed at the discretion of the doctor with considerations such as no emergency operation being delayed due to a lack of a test and patients not being directed to other institutions due to a lack of a testing facility, according to the recommendation.

All preparations for collecting and transporting samples to testing centers that are mapped to the health facility should be arranged.

According to Mr. Bhargava, India has 3,128 testing facilities and a daily RT-PCR testing capacity of more than 20 lakh.

Patients hospitalized to hospitals should not be sent to other facilities due to a lack of testing facilities, according to the warning.
