Why is the South Film Industry Overpowering Bollywood? Time for Bollywood to rethink?
As the topic itself, has given an overall idea of what I am going to write? I am a great cinema lover and honestly, till 2015, I was living in a world where cinema means Bollywood. But one day in 2015 November, my wife gave me some movies in a pen drive to watch and, I watched them. Surprisingly, all the movies were South Indian, my first movie was Ramanna. When I saw the movie, I realized it was the original version of Akshay Kumar's starer “Gab bar is back”. This was the entry of South Indian movies in my life.
As I became familiar with South Indian movies, my interest in Bollywood was gone. And the icing on the cake was the pandemic of Corona. I was free and watched a lot of movies, both Bollywood and South Indian movies. Now, my interest has been lost for Bollywood myth about Bollywood has badly shattered.
I might be wrong for others, but my main reason for the rise of South Indian Movies is:
1. Originality: This is because most of the Bollywood movies are remakes of South Indian movies.
2. Internet Accessibility to most parts of our country.
3. Experiments: South Indian Movies are never afraid of making new experiments. The recent Examples are movies like KG F.
The main point of the success of South movies is their content. Now. When Bollywood is busy making remakes from the South, why would we watch the same film again?
I used to watch 9XM, B4U music only for good songs at the beginning of this decade (2010-2015). The songs were very good, but nowadays, it is only the remix and rap songs.
So, according to me the main reasons why Bollywood is lacking are relatively available in South Indian films, visual appearance, and poor Bollywood movies. I want to share my feelings when I realized that the Bollywood movie which I thought was very creative unfortunately was just a copy of South Indian movies. I know most of you, who are cinema lovers, must be aware of it.
In the last 5-6 years, the South Industry has made such advancements in VFX, technology and the quality of the script, etc. South Indian cinema is on fire right now. While Bollywood does not focus on making movies that touch the emotion of the audience.
The main achievement of South Indian movies in recent years is producing visual treats like KG F and 2.0. Visual treats always attract towards the films, irrespective of the language.
Especially in Karnataka, the trend shifting towards other South Industries is visible. 10 years back, I had known Salman, Akshay but not Prabhat, Mahesh, or Vijay. Now people are equally curious about what is happening in Telugu Industry? Tamil Industry or Malayalam Industry.
Bollywood's movies losing popularity because people get fed up with love stories. Bollywood's stars are less hardworking when compared with South stars. South stars try to tell stories, whereas north stars try to go off brands.
