Why is site search so poor on most websites?

It is important to first break down what the definition of evil is.

They may not have content that matches your question.

Self-reference and text search (after you click or press Enter) usually have different benefits and implementations

Sometimes the result set is deliberately kept large so that the user can get more options to increase the content usage.

Language / Phonetics Problems-Spelling and pronunciation may vary in different geographical areas.

Not all companies have as much data as Google. They can scan the entire web, despite limited access to sites.

Not everyone has unlimited technical bandwidth, both human and machine. Monetary limits.

  Many reasons:

Platform Limitations - Platforms hosted by many sites are not designed with site search practice in mind.

Often, you will find what I call an 'e-catalog', which focuses on allowing you to publish a bunch of products online without having to worry about who's visiting your site.

How people can find / improve them. To combat this, many shopping cart / ecommerce solutions have extensions, plug-ins or other modules that offer more advanced search capabilities, but most companies are unaware of them or take the time to implement them.

Bad data. Site search is only good with the quality of the data in it. In the case of product searches, you need the product name, title and description to include the part number and keyword that the potential customer associates with them in order for the search to be effective.

Using SKUs designed by meaningless supplier instead of official manufacturer's part numbers and poorly constructed names / descriptions, product data quality often fails to reach scratch with minimal product descriptions (especially with feed - driven catalogs).

Poor configuration of the site search tool - Sometimes the site search tool is more than capable but requires setup / configuration to be effective. For example, on the Magento platform, you can install Solr or Lucene Blast for power site search but if they are not set up and configured to run properly, the results will be poor.

Poor ongoing maintenance - requires consistent maintenance to keep site search effective. The site administrator should analyze the site search report to see the terms used by the users along with the results provided by the site. Based on this, they should take steps to improve the equipment through a number of methods such as adding synonyms creating dedicated search landing pages, and copying the product.

Site Search Provides only product searches - The failure of many ecommerce platforms is that the site search tool exclusively offers product searches. However, visitors can also search for other content such as payment terms, delivery methods or return information. A good site search tool facilitates both types of searches but there are still plenty of sinless sites‌.

Search speed and relevance of results are often the biggest contributor to poor site search. Search speeds can be improved by indexing sites and generating their data. We need to find better ways to improve the relevance of search results, filter out poorly performing sites and deliver results to our customers.

For example, when we evaluate a customer's location-based site search (a property website), when they list location results by distance, we find that the results are not always user-friendly.

Just because a short straight line does not necessarily mean it's relevant does not mean that property explorers care about travel times and local area access.

They solved the problem by listing the assets according to the travel time and increased their exchange rates. By x3
