Why is it important to set goals in organizations?

All business organizations should have goals in writing as part of their business plan. These objectives describe what the company wants to achieve, in terms of market share, growth and profitability. Objectives can also be set up for internal measurements, such as expanding staff or increasing employee engagement. Setting goals has many benefits.

Gives Focus

Focus

By setting clear goals, employees know what the priorities of the organization are. Employees can focus better in the coming quarter or year, and better prioritize their own projects. Plus, it helps them see their own tasks as part of the bigger picture. For management, goals help decision-making and division of tasks among staff.

Increases Motivation

Motivation

Organizational objectives give employees a direction; they have something to aspire to. But instead of aiming for overall profit, employees can better work towards the goal of “a 10% increase in profit by the end of the year.” This increases motivation and will challenge employees to rise above themselves. Of course it helps when there is a special award, recognition or even a reward associated with achieving the goal.

Improves Group Unity

Unity

Many business goals are not achieved unless employees of all levels work together as a whole to achieve the goals. Group unity can improve if it is made clear to employees that they only achieve the objectives when they operate as a team. Management can enforce this by giving group rewards when the organization achieves its goal.

Increases Employee Value

Value

Involving employees in setting organizational goals increases their willingness to participate in the organization and the projects that help achieve the goals. It tells them that their input is valued and important and thus increases their self-esteem. So, the objectives are not only of management; they are goals of everyone in the organization.

Ensures Measurability

Measure

Goals should be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-bound (also called SMART). This allows employees to see their progress, how their efforts impact the whole and assess how much they still need to do to reach the goal

Never Give Up

Never give up

If you give up, your financial future and basically everything you've worked or wanted. Always keep pushing and pulling. It may seem difficult now, but the fruits of your labor will soon be reaped. Think of it this way: Most Organization have their dreams and goals, and what has it brought them? Take an honest and hard look around your own group ... would you trade with them? If your answer is no: get to work and don't give up! Someone has to do it,

Be Positive

Be positive

Besides not giving up, you should have positive vibes. It is very important to stay positive and hang out with positive people. It's much easier to stay positive around positive people. So ignore the "TGIF" or "ugh it's Monday" folks. Be positive about your goals, your life and your future. Don't you also like that successful people are usually very positive?

Celebrate Successes

Success

Don't forget to celebrate successes. This will keep your job fun. You have to reward yourself sometimes and also employees. So I don't mean spend all your money when you hit the first milestone… that's absurd.
