Why is boarding school the right choice?

School is a time for a child when he grows and goes from several phases of life to reach adulthood. School helps to build a child’s personality and character so that he carries his whole with him. Habits and traits acquired during school years are hard to leave behind. So, teachers and parents must focus on shaping a child’s behavior from school time itself. We cannot expect children to grow into responsible adults on their own without putting in much effort ourselves.

With the growing pace of life and lack of time, many parents prefer boarding schools for their children as they are unable to give proper attention to them themselves. It has proven to be fruitful for parents but the same cannot be said for students. Every student is affected differently by the boarding school system. It can be advantageous and disadvantageous; depending upon the type of student being exposed to it.

Before admitting their children to boarding schools; parents should always assess the mental health and behavior of their children. Parents should never impose boarding school as a punishment on their children. It will make them soar toward their own parents and, they will never be able to accept boarding school. It will have a more negative impact on their mental health and academic life. Parents should always look for the best way for their children’s education. If their child is comfortable and confident in his/her current school; they should not force him/her to join a boarding school. If a child is not confident and is not able to adjust to his current school; then his parents can persuade him to join a boarding school. But they must not force him. The final decision should be of the student himself, otherwise he won’t accept the school completely.

A boarding school can have completely opposite effects on different children. A child who was earlier an introverted and shy kid can turn into a confident adult. On the other hand, a brilliant student who is always top in his/her class can turn completely opposite and lack interest in academics if he misuses his freedom away from his parents.

A boarding school exposes a student to the reality of life. There they have to be on their own and take care of themselves in the absence of their parents. The school only guides to a certain extent but, eventually, the students are on their own. A student gets to interact with a lot of other children, which helps in developing confidence and personality. Students learn to respect and share with others. An adult who has lived in a boarding school during his school years is more adjusted and more elastic in the adult world as compared to people who lived with their parents.

However, boarding school is not exclusively beneficial to children. Kids under a certain age should not be sent to boarding schools until they become self-conscious. Very small children need their parents up to a certain age. If they are deprived of it, it can hamper their confidence and personality development. They will be unable to cope with the other kids.

Although boarding schools can be beneficial for both students and parents, parents should always keep in mind that not all students are the same. Some of the things to remember are that very small kid should not be sent to boarding schools; a student who is not willing to go should not be forced; if your kid is already comfortable where he is, then there is no need to change school; or if your kid has severe social anxiety issues you must first check in with psychologist before deciding about boarding school. In the end, it all comes down to the child.
