According to 9To5Mac, creators will now have the chance to earn up to $10,000 by posting these short videos called “Reels” as part of the Reels Play bonus program.
However, the rules of the bonus program are not clear to users, citing TechCrunch, the report said.
A creator with more than 50,000 followers earned $1,000 in a month, but some people with more followers earned only $600. Other creators said they were offered $800 if they reached 1.7 million views on all Reels posted in a month.
According to Instagram, the bonus program is being tested with a few creators, and users should “expect them to fluctuate while we’re still getting started”.
The company claims that bonuses will become more personalized in the future. These bonuses are “rolling out slowly” and are not available to all users yet.
To start, these bonuses are only available in the US.
Meta-owned photo-sharing app Instagram has announced that it is adding two new inspired features, ‘text-to-speech’ and ‘voice effects’ in Reels.
The text-to-speech will basically allow users to use an artificial voice to read anything instead of using their own voice in the video. Instagram has also added voice effects that can be added to a video. With new options, it is now easier to make funny videos with different voices.
“We know that using sound and audio are one of the funnest aspects of creating a Reel! So we are launching two new audio tools called voice effects and text to speech. Swipe through to learn more about how to use them to take your Reels to the next level,” the firm said in a statement.
The features are now being rolled out to Instagram users on iOS and Android.
To add the new text to speech option, once added text to a clip, one will need to tap on the text bubble at the bottom of the composer screen, then select ‘text-to-speech’ from the three dots menu.
Meanwhile, Instagram has started testing a new feature called ‘Take a Break’ to encourage people to take regular breaks from using the Meta-owned photo-sharing app.
According to Adam, Head of Instagram, the long-awaited ‘Take a Break’ feature will remind users when they have spent a long time on the platform.
“It does what you think it does. If you opt in, it encourages you to take a break from Instagram after you spend a certain amount of time on the app; 10, 20, or 30 minutes,” Mossier said in a video posted to Twitter.
‘Take a Break’ is expected to be more widely available in December, Mossier added.
The company also blocked Photo from Instagram’s API and from being pre-populated in Instagram posts, reports The Verge.
“The actions of Facebook and Instagram destroyed Photo as a viable business and ruined the company’s prospects for investment,” Photo said in a complaint filed in US District Court.
“Photo failed as a direct result of Facebook’s anticompetitive conduct. But for Facebook’s conduct, Photo was positioned to grow into a social networking giant, similar in size, scope, and shareholder value to other social networking and media companies with which Facebook did not interfere,” it added.
A Meta spokesperson said that “this suit is without merit, and we will defend ourselves vigorously”.
Photo was shut down in 2017 before reaching 3.7 million monthly active users at its peak.
“Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, former Instagram CEO Kevin System, and several other Facebook employees downloaded the app in August 2014 and examined its features,” the now-defunct photo app claimed in its lawsuit.
