As an Indian, It is our responsibility to understand the complete scenario of the role of Indians in the Olympics. India has been participating in the Olympics since 1900, but still, we are suffering from performing according to our expectations and abilities.
We all know that China is also participating in the Olympics and not only participating but creating huge records also. The good performance of china in the Olympics might be the result of their population. If any country has more population, they may also have more talent with variations expected from India. Even India is the second-largest populated country, and it is still lagging in Olympics.
Here we will discuss the unexpected reasons, and by reading these reasons, you may have to feel embarrassed as an Indian.
(a). Less Government Support
That is a prevalent reason we all know that our government does not support the Olympics. Our government is not providing so many funds to the players who can help them to grow. Our government provides funds and awards only to those who already won medals but not to those who have the ability to win medals in the next Olympics.
(b) Do we Really Follow the Olympics Players?
This is the question that is the defining point of this discussion. We should all ask ourselves if we really follow the Olympics players as we follow cricket players. We all blame the Indian government for the bad performance of India in the Olympics, but that is not the reality. Did anyone know the Meera Bai Chanu before Tokyo Olympics who won silver for India? Does anyone know Ravi Dhayia, Bajrang Punia, and Neeraj Chopra before the Olympics 2021? Even after the completion of Olympics 2021, we Indians don’t know the names of players who did not win any medal because our focus is only on the medals, not the individual players.
Our players are suffering for the support of the people. Our Indian players are not getting so much support and fame as Indian cricket players. That is why players play in the Olympics only for the government job, not for winning medals because first, they try to find out save themselves in their career rather than focus on the medals. And that is the reality of today’s performance of India in the Olympics.
If you really want India to succeed in the Olympics, then Indians have to support players because nothing is bigger than fame.
(c) Does Award Policy of Indian Government Right or Wrong
We all know that all players who won medals for India get funds, awards, and jobs from the Indian government. And We really appreciate the Indian government for this. Neeraj Chopra got 2 crores from the Punjab government, 6 Crores from the Haryana government, and 1 crore from BCCI and CSK. And that is very really appreciating things. But there is also a huge problem. Why are we providing the funds to those only who are winning medals, and Why not to those who did not get any medals? Those players who did not qualify or did not get any medal in Olympics 2021, if they would also get the awards and funds like Neeraj Chopra, they will definitely help India get more medals. But the truth is that our government is not focusing on that.
