"In the end, the world always wins. That's just the way of things."
Never has this author failed to make me cry and make me laugh at the same time.
Before I started reading this book, I vividly recall running my hands over the cover, over the embossed letters that read, The Kite Runner, with nothing but hope and eagerness in my mind.
The Kite Runner--A story that has a mix of emotions. You might think at some moments that you're smiling, yet you find the tears rolling down your cheeks. This novel surprises you, it amazes you and above all, it states the realities. You can easily connect yourself to it.
The story revolves around Amir and Hassan, the two best friends. It beautifully depicts the emotional story of betrayal, guilt, and redemption. The Kite Runner is a wonderfully created novel set in a country that is in the process of being destroyed. It is the unforgettable, heartbreaking story of an unusual connection between a rich child and the son of his father's servant. It's about the power of reading, the cost of betrayal, and the potential of atonement; and it's about the influence of fathers upon their sons—their love, sacrifices, and falsehoods.
The Kite Runner is a strange and compelling novel that has become a treasured, one-of-a-kind classic. It is a sweeping story of family, love, and friendship set against the sad backdrop of Afghanistan's history during the last thirty years.
I finished this book about a month ago, but it's taken me this long to write a review because my views about it are so conflicted. It was a tremendously moving novel, but not always positively. I really wanted to enjoy it, but the more I consider what I didn't like about it, the more it irritates me. From the time I started writing it to the time I completed it, I even reduced the rating from two to one star.
"There is a way to be nice again," says the narrator.
The kite is a symbol of liberation, of humanity's primal desire to soar and be as light as a feather. When you fly, no one can threaten or harm you. Boys compete in kite tournaments in Kabul neighborhoods, looking upwards in optimism. Hope, on the other hand, isn't always fruitful and can become a meaningless phrase.
It's easy to judge people around, lead them down, and make them guilty. But it demands some courage to make people happy, understand their point, and help them in need. All I've learned from this novel is, no matter how bad you're forced to judge someone at times, just don't. You've no idea what the other is going through. The peaks and valleys in one's life can never be understood by you. Because it's him who's suffering, not you.
It is hard to stand back at a place where you started, yet it is never late to do that. Not letting your past make things worse and bringing your better version today, makes you a man of actions and not words. This book is a beautiful combination of emotions that bring you peace and make you love every bit of it.
I'd highly recommend this one.
