No one likes traffic. Radio stations begin broadcasting traffic control reports around 4:30 p.m. just so people can avoid you. People are known to drive many miles to get there and spend most of the afternoon sitting in the car listening to the radio, watching the bumper in front of you as you try to get home for a delicious dinner. Yet there is one group of people who love traffic the most. Web designers. In fact, a large part of their job is to produce traffic. Getting people to come to their website and see what it says or sell is the main goal of web designers. The more crowded, the better the day. There are some ways these designers can go to bring more traffic with less amount of effort to their site.
In Cards
E-cards are a fun way to keep in touch without having to sit down and write a long letter. Even better, e-cards offer the opportunity to share a specific photo or idea with someone. The ability to make e-cards your own and send them for free will bring people flocking to your doors. If the website is special, the cards can be very powerful. If you have a website that sells sewing supplies, you can set up a few cards with pictures of quilts or funny quilting quotes on them. The site will receive double exposure to card senders and card recipients and will eventually start looking at what your site will offer you. E-cards provide a cheap and easy way to increase traffic dramatically.
Cartoons
Nothing makes your day better than a smile, and nothing makes you smile better than seeing a funny cartoon at the bottom of the site. Soon people will come to your site to see what their favorite cartoon character is doing. While they are there they will look at all your information or products. For a small fee, some cartoonists will allow you to link your site to their line. Some sites offer comedy placement right on your homepage. Finding a cartoon title similar to the title of your website provides another opportunity to reinforce your message and encourage people to stop and share that information with others.
Web rings
While some of them may be good, there is not a single website that contains everyone's answers to every problem. So if a user is on one site, he or she may want to view another that offers the same product or information. Being part of a web ring can help you create traffic to your site as people start looking for more sites to add to their search. Each Web ring will give you a rule to add to your site and allow their users to access that through their site or links to other sites. One feature many Web rings have is the “random site” that allows the user to jump to your site without having to type keywords in order to find them. This feature not only increases traffic but also brings you new traffic in your own way.
Traffic may not be something most of us rush to get into. However, for web designers, the highway of information is ready to travel.
